QH Book of Goats

While Marie Antoinette imported her RL goats from Switzerland, the QH Co-op will have to work a bit harder to develop a goat herd for the SL Hamlet. We're going to need a bit of strategy, a bit of luck and a whole lot of community effort via the Adopt-a-Goat program.

814_discussions.png?width=700

GOALS & GUIDELINES

Starting with two multi-bred "foundation" goats, raise & maintain purebreds of the nine different goat varieties while limiting the introduction of outside stock.

Maximize all genetic characteristics (Milk, Skin & Meat)

In honour of Marie Antoinette's preference for white goats, they will be raised on the grounds of the Hamlet. In addition, the Hamlet will also house Black & White goats. All other colours will hopefully be raised on private residences.

NAMING CONVENTIONS

As an easy way to track generations, goats born through the QH breeding program will be named "alphabetically". The first generation of goats will all have names starting with "A". Their offspring will all have names starting with "B" etc.

In the event that the parents are of different generations the offspring will take the highest letter as its first character. For example, the kid of Abigail & Beau could be named "Claire".

RECORD KEEPING

Rather than using quill & parchment, there's an Excel spreadsheet being used to keep track of at least the early generations. Information will also be shared here.

Let the Goat Games Begin!!

VARIETIES as of MAY 5, 2016

  • Black & White - Crossbred
  • Black & White - Purebred
  • Gray - Crossbred
  • Gray - Purebred (May 25th)
  • White - Crossbred
  • White - Purebred
  • Grey & White -Crossbred
  • Grey & White - Purebred
  • Black - Crossbred
  • Black - Purebred (June 6th)
  • Brown - Crossbred
  • Brown -Purebred (TBA)
  • Brown & White - Crossbred
  • Brown & White - Purebred (May 9th)

On June 1st we imported a Northern and a Grey-White-Black as these colours hadn't popped up after eight generations from our Founder stock.

She is cute. I actually overheard a conversation on the Main group talking about goats that never grow up. I think one of them suggested that if the baby goat's happiness stays around 70 or less it stops growing.

I know they have a dwarf "tarsk" (similar to pigs), maybe a dwarf goat? She's cute! :D

Last night Fanni had her first baby - that's when I noticed.. Fanni never grew up! Here she is with her cousin Feliz (born the same day as she) and her new little baby Gabe.. just to compare sizes! I figured this was a "QH Goat Phenomena" and worthy of sharing with you all! MAYBE Fanni's small size is a new trait? (oh and I added the prim platform because my ground was uneven .. ) ;-D ;-D ;-D 823_discussions.jpg?width=721

Nice chart!

It is getting a bit of "Game of Thronish" and goat-swapping is so much fun :)

Not sure yet who Darla and Edmond will pair with so keeping them in a box for now. So far keeping track of who is breeding with who but I have a feelings its going to be really confusing soon.

PS: Getting a Game of Thrones feeling with all this...

At this point I was getting a bit desperate for a female having had 4 male kids in a row. The Adopt-a-Goat program was slowed down a tad as we were thinking of giving out mostly females (for the milk of course) and then came another statistical surprise ...
