International Talk Like A Pirate Day 2015

General Discussion

On this, International Speak Like a Pirate day, We who are in the service of his most Britannic Majesty, Good King George the III, in his Royal Navy and Marines would like to give our most hart felt thank's to all you Pirates, Scoundrels, Buccaneers, and so called Privateers, who chosen this day to make our task easier, of maintaining the rule of Law and of order and making the Sea lanes safe, by opening reveling yourself to the world. Due to the large numbers, and our wish to give each and every one of you the Personal service you duly deserve, we have started to take down names, and we assure you that you have not been forgotten, nor are you ignored and that shortly a friendly square of well armed Royal Marines will soon pay you a visit.

Second Life CEO Ebbe Altberg speaks about their VR project, ‘Sansar’

Bloggers' Corner

Autodesk Maya, Looks Great, but is expensicve, dose not support all platforms equily ( Autodesk is famouse for not having all featuers in there Macintosh Version of Software) and dose have a steep learning curve.

Blender is FREE, runs on Windose, Macintosh, Linux and there lots of online toutorials.

At work, We use SketchupPRO, as do most of the Archetechs I know these days as well as most of the other Solar Companys I know. The software NOT Free, but easy to learn, powerful, and not unreasonably ecxpenssive for a hobbist to be able to justify the cost of.

I would hope, so as to get many creative minds and hands working, thatt Blender and/or Sketchup-PRO would be standards for support, with brach out support for programs like Calavari and Maya.

A Consumption tax, i.e. Sales Tax helps creators greatly, as it move part of the support of land to the users, instead of being all on the Creators.

Theft in SL

General Discussion

I am very sorry to hear of the crime, and the Loss of the French area in Antiquity. It was truely a Gem, a Asset, and a Marvel. A Loss to SL to no longer have it.

Path for Antiquity in Summer of 2015

Communty News & Events

Place like Berlin, Du Coeur , Rocca and Antiquity, should be recognized for what they are, Educational Environments, Regions which gives Great credit and shows the vision of Virtual Worlds.

As such, and being LL dose not have to pay for all of the Work done on creating and maintaining these sims, but instead gets to reap benefits and get paid for hosting, it really needs to creat a new set of Tiers spaciffically for these, Something which keeps these sims in SL, and not force them to eaither close or move to another World.

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

It is a problem in Kitely right now, I yet to fine any historical clothing, either in the Marketplace or in world in shops.

If we are to build a Historical Roll play community there, we need to address this problem. I fine dressing for the era, the first step in stepping in to the mod of the era, the getting in to the charter..

( As to what I wearing right now, don't ask, it awful, I look like a 1970's Hippy in kitely, but I will soon remedy that.)

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

We are in the Equvellent of the early days of the Internet.

Early on, there was AOL, CompuServe, there was DELPHI, and 3 or 4 other pay servers with there own content, you could only access thee content by there software, calling in to and logging in to there servers.

There where also at that time, Thousands of BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems) run by Individuals, non-profit groups, and companies. None connected to others.

This is where we at to day in the VR world.

SL in many ways, is Great, it has a popular base, it has good content, and a good market and currency, but it expansive, and some of thee content creators agreements are not god at protecting content.

Some other grids have, 2 or 3 of the things that SL has, in some cases one or two of those may be better than SL, but none currently has the combination of all of those, but they are growing and improving.

This is good for us.

A. As the compittiion grows, the pressure from Competition will both cause increments in SL, and reduce cost. When and by how much is the question.

B. and this is the Inportant part, pressuer will be raising to interconnect all the Grids and allow for hopping from one to the other in a seamles way.

The historical sims provides legaitacyme to amy Grid, we produce rich content and attractive, engaging enviroments. But our work is truly the work of Amatuers, not in the curent meaning of the word, but in it true meaning, one who dose it for the love of it.

Our product is not created for Profit, and dose not make for the best commercial investment, but we do educate, we do entertain, and we do inspier , research, art, creativity.

We also learn to be encredable efficent in our creations, but still because the quality of our product, we need space and prims and it needs to be affordable to us.

So, it is exciting times.
