Signor Capo eccellentissimo:Most sorrowful was I was that I could not meet you early in the morning with your workers at the piazza. They told me that you would come, but it was time for me to go before you could arrive. As promised, I did bring three other boys from the orphanage to see you and the work. Some girls wanted to come too, but the Sisters would not allow. Still, all my friends are very excited, as am I, that the Campanile has been cleaned and restored. Venezia owes gratitude to you, Most Excellent Signor Capo! With excitement we orphans await the day when the church of San Marco will be open again so that we can feel the protection of the great Evangelist San Marco for our city and country. We all promise to pray that this powerful patron will give you the strength and means to complete your mission.Your servant and would-be apprentice,PERA Fiorino

Your Highness has certainly done everything to move our cittadini to loyalty and pride in the Serenissima, and your many efforts have lifted the spirit of our people to a renewed sense of duty, loyalty and, I sincerely hope, Christian charity.Thank you for your visit to me and your friendship, which I cherish, while I invoke on you and on your children God's abundant blessings.

A wonderful party! Your villa is a delight! I am enchanted to be a guest there and honored to be your friend. Your library---the room with the unfinished frescoes--is absolutely brilliant and I hope those frescoes will remain unfinished there. I find it one of the most wonderful rooms I have seen anywhere.
