The exhibit of Goya "cartoons" that provided the basis for royal tapestries reopened today at Melioria in the OOC/Entry area. This excellent show, created by Quecay Amat and originally shown in the Palacio de Villafranca on the sim of the Spanish Royal Court of Carlos IV, was just so good that we had to ask to borrow it. 495_blogs.png?width=750 Attendance was very good: it will be up for at least two months in that location

We would be remiss if we did not express our appreciation to the people who made this possible:

Thank you to Quecay and the Court of Carlos IV for agreeing to let us have the exhibit and to add some additional pieces to it; to Dio Kuhr and Sere Timeless for their help with installing the exhibit, and to Sere for her excellent recreation of an 18th Goya tapestry; and thank you to Quecay and Maria Del Carmen Novarro for attending and answeringquestions about the art as well as Spanish history and cultural traditions. Even those of us who had been working on this for a while learned new things.

Everyone is welcome to come and view this exhibit.

I have found this two examples of tapestries from Goya cartn (dont mistake with cartoon) : Cartn is a picture painted on a cardboard, not on a canvas.

The Royal Factory workers complained about the difficulty of making tapestry from Goya pattern due to their pre-impressionist style, full of tiny details, vivid light and rich colors.

Thank you again, Aldo, for your interest and strong involvement in all cultural activities.

I thank you, too, for not show me in your pictures ( jajajaja ), I promise you that I have never lived a similar situation and I can assure you that I I had dressed with great care.

thank you Quecay, it is really interesting being able to compare some of the tapestries to the original paintings they were based on. It was surprising how hard it is to find pictures of the tapestries.

One question, what is the story behind the second one, " La Rina en el Venta Nueva" -- what is going on there? It appears something very bad is happening.

It is not easy to find pictures of the tapestries because they are lost, sold or in private palaces, while the "cartones" of the Royal Tapestry Factory have been perfectly stored and cataloged. And of course, they have much more historical and economic value for having been executed by Goya.

I will try to explain the second one:

La ria en la Venta Nueva ( Quarrel in TheNew Hostel )

The scene takes place in the hostel Venta Nueva near Madrid, located in the site called Ventas del Espritu Santo, where used to stop to rest merchants, muleteers and players.

The cards, lying on the table, appear to be the origin of the conflict. The dispute is in the foreground while the gaming table and the landlord collecting the money are in a second place.

According to Goya, the men who quarrel are from different regions because they are wearing their typical suit. We can see a man biting his opponent and a policeman coming with a gun.

Again, Goya shows us a scene full of naturalness of the popular life in the XVIII century.

Best regards
