Italy: Venezia-The Launching of...
The crews of both ships as well the shipwrights and their families stood in attention as the Doge of Venice, Ludovico Manin, presided over the christening and launch of the Sea Witch. After a lengthy oration about Venitian craftsmanship and pride by the Doge, a prayer ceremony was led by one of the local priests for luck and safe journeys. The ceremony concluded with myself making a speech about my fine crew's performance in adventures past, and about my optimism that the Sea Witch and her crew can and will follow the tradition of service and excellence, as her predecessors have done, to the Ordine Benevolo Del Lupo Bianco. With that, I smashed two bottles on her bow. The first bottle was of fine French Champagne by Moet & Chandon(a family favorite since the 1740's might I add) that I had procured on my last voyage to Versailles. The second bottle was more of a local faire, a bottle of Rocca Sorrentina mineral water, in honor of my friends, the good people of that tiny island who have so graciously hosted us when during our countless moorings within the Bay of Naples. With that, Sea Witch was then committed to the sea with a loud splash, baptised sterncastle first into the cold greenish blue ocean water. Thunderous applause and cheers soon followed as Sea Witch took her rightful place amongst her two big sisters, Manticore and Leviathan. We were a family of 3 now, and I, as Captain, couldn't be any more prouder.
Bravo Captain, she's a fine vessel :D
Spectacular !
