My Lord Myron!I offer this image to defend the ladies of the court from your salacious insinuations.La Belle Poule - in this instance - is the name of a French man-of-war which famously defeated - much as it hurts me to concede it - a British warship. The coiffure was worn to celebrate this feat.Your humble servant,Gedenspire

I am most admiring (and indeed envious) of this lady's fetching pallor! Where did you collar such a beauty to stay still (and suitor-less) for such an exacting oil portrait? She almost resembles marble! What a beauty! And such a gown! I almost wish I could wear it myself...Your Obliged, &c.,WL

Sir!Kindly control yourself.I do not collar ladies.Although I have an undeserved reputation as a roue, I treat the ladies of the court with the utmost kindness, tact and consideration. Unlike you, I do not seek to interfere with their bosoms, except for admiring glances. And I certainly would not aspire to wear their gowns, although I have often complained of the paucity of choice in male fashions.Your servant,Gedenspire, Captain
