The Swiss Guard has a proud tradition going back to The Hundred Swiss created in 1480 when Louis XI retained a Swiss company for his personal guard..The Hundred Swiss shared the indoor guard with the King's Bodyguards who were Frenchmen.Gentlemen, please join us and become part of a proud tradition!Gedenspire, Capitaine de la Garde Suisse

Thank you for the kind offer my dear brother in law, but i do have to refuse. I still haven't recovered mentally from my previous serving in the Austrian army. And to be honest, i did made a lousy soldier. I brought the 'walking backwards' technique to heights of terrible perfection... I think i even developed an allergic reaction or so towards the battlefield. I hated the food and loved the Ale. And i am afraid your sister would kill me if i ever join an army again. But if you ever need a docteur there, count me in.Your BIL, Pekel.

I agree with you, Sir Walter. These uniforms look so good! I prefer them by far. The other ones i knew were tainted with blood all too often, but the uniforms of the Garde Suisse de Versailles are immaculate, and only spotted once in a while by brioche crumbs or tea stains. Easier to clean.

Let me put the mind of all those that hesitate at ease: the words "fight", "battle" or even "patrol" do not exist in the vocabularies of the members of our esteemed Swiss Garde. As Lord Myron de Verne so rightly commented, the only real dangers faced are the odd tea stain or brioche crumb....

My Lady de Plessis! If I were not a stout-hearted soldier, your comments would wound me deeply! We Swiss are renowned for our singular devotion to duty and to be sure that duty at the Palace includes being agreeable to ladies of the court. This onerous task I pursue with zeal and strenuous effort.Suum cuique - is the Latin motto my classics master beat into me at Rugby school. And I forgot to mention that you look stunning in that gown!Your devoted servant,Gedenspire, Capitaine de la Garde Suisse
