Abandoned after the Coeur Fair!

My Dearest Mother,

You must be full of worry after learning that I did not return with Sua Eccellenza from the Coeur Fair. The Principe had me working so hard loading and unloading, fetching this and fetching that during the fair, by the time we were ready to go my body was exhausted! With the wagon packed, I waited while he was still hob-knobbing with his new-found friends and making his goodbyes. For but a moment, I lay my weary bones beneath the wagon to rest before we began our long journey back to the villa. When I awoke, the fair grounds were deserted and the stars shown brilliantly in the night sky.

I had been abandoned!

You can now set your heart at ease, Dear Mother, knowing that I am safe and sound. Though it has taken me a long while to earn enough coin to purchase ink, pen, and paper and to afford the postage to be able to send you this despatch. Lucky for me, the Duchesse de Provence had room in her bakery for several more bakers, and my experience growing up in the villa kitchen afforded me well the chance to become gainfully employed.

Now, I spend my nights kneading and rolling the bread so that those during the day have plenty of soft fresh bread with a nice hard crust that seems so typically like the French themselves. During the day I rest so that I may begin baking again in the evening all afresh.

Dearest Mother, I regret that I must now say goodbye as my single sheet of paper has come to an end. Sleep with golden dreams knowing your daughter shall be safe until Sua Eccellenza returns for next month's fair in the Duche de Coeur.

Your loving daughter,
CeCe

Ahhhh CeCe, his loss is certainly the Duch's gain! The bread has never been so delicious and plentiful. Can you imagine all hell breaking loose when the wagon reached it's destination and there was no one to unpack it with your usual care. I'm sure that they are searching for you at this very moment and I'm surprised they haven't made it all the way back to the Duch yet.In any case, you are more than welcome to stay as long as you want. Perhaps we will see you at the Romance Ball tomorrow? Dust the flour off and come for some amusement. Life shouldn't be all work.Best RegardsTatiana, Duchesse de Provence

Somewhere on the road to Genova.I always forget how slow it is to travel with my retinue. On horseback by myself I could almost be to Genova by now. But at least the roads have improved from the Duch de Coeur to home over the last few years. And the weather has been fortunate though I do smell rain for probably Sunday. It will be nice to be home at the Villa Vesuviana soon. Planting starts. no formal dress.Sighs ......so slow. Maybe I should send a messenger ahead to tell Marcantonio I plan to stay a few days with him at the Villa Borghese. Probably good idea since he has practically let anyone set up camp in the Salone. He has so many moderne ideas ever since I gave him Candide to read. Opening up the Villa like that for just anyone with a hat to come in and look around. Voltaire should be taken in small doses not eaten like a pig joint. His boys must be 3 or 4 by now. Francofilo just like their Father. Speaking francese that well at their age! Puts me to shame. Probably grow up and marry some francese upstart. Voltaire and exposure to early francese. Can only lead to trouble.or worse poco bastardi sotto i piedi. I wonder if Marco knows the old man died. Terrible how they had to hide the funeral. Was brave though. Imagine the old man telling the priest, "For God's sake, let me die in peace." Now That is Grandi sfere.I doubt if Marco has decided to sell me that old Bernini. He didnt even like it til I showed interest. Hiding it amongst all those other pieces on the Loggia. So predictable of him to now say it is his best piece. And worse I hear he has redecorated the room he put it in calling it the Stanza di Apollo e Dafne.Maybe I shouldnt visit him after all. Why give him the pleasure. Maybe I should just steal away Asprucci to redo my terraces. Oh that would roast him.Ahh I should break off and go to Venezia by myself and call on Contesse Rezzonico and Foscari. So sweet of them to confirm my old titles. Grazie lo ringraziano. I hear they are completely renovating San Marco. From the drawings I saw they took it all down to the bare walls and are reattaching each tile one by one. Ambizioso! Saluto per i due grandi Dames! No no too long a trip. I will plan one out after planting and pay proper respect at that time.Sighs.. soo slow. At this speed you feel every stone in the road.Looks back over shoulder. The Faire de Coeur was successful. I like it when investments are not only profitable but a pleasure. The paintings that didnt sell (too inglese!) seem to be taking this murderous trip back well. I will hang them in the dining room.Glances at the catalogue.Better count them. Lawrence, GainsbLa sua Tolleranza Tatiana is really a marvelous host. What a delight. The food, the vino and ohh the bread!Gainsborough, Reynolds. Another LawrenceRomney.Superb bread. Cece loved their yeast just went on and oCece hmmmLooks around for Cece.Cece!Oh il mio dio!Where is that damned Cece?CECE!!!!!We left her at the Faire? Hungover. Never let her have vino. Her wretched mother will poison me with bad ell for leaving her behind!!!Madonna!Unload that chandelier off that broken down cart. Take the mulo back to the Faire no not that one. The one with the limp! And bring her back.Cazzo!
