Marie-Antoinette actually had pots full of flowers, just like these, on the steps of the staircase of the Petit Trianon (see Mme Campan). Although actually putting pots on an SL staircase would be slightly dangerous, a few help to recreate the "courtyard" atmosphere that M Gabriel and Mme de Pompadour sought in their design of the Petit Trianon's entry hall.
