Early U.S. sim

General Discussion

Ah, that IS a loss...There wasn't any area of Europe that couldn't have interacted with that "court" and had interesting encounters and fascinating visions of the cities and countryside of that environment. It would have automatically become a major player in this life (ooc: just as George Washington became the most famous name in the world in that pre-mass media age).

Early U.S. sim

General Discussion

Did I misunderstand or miss a notice? Is there not a late 18th century U.S. sim? I see no sign of it here, and I believe this is where I first heard of it.

A mutual time period for rp

Communty News & Events

I realize that the initial response to this suggestion will be to dismiss it--for various good reasons (especially since several of the courts have invested much effort in their rp histories).

With due respect to the truly amazing, innovative, and gorgeous creations in the various nations and city states (both complete and in progress), there is one slightly confusing area that is more obvious to those of us who are attempting to be ambassadors reporting from one court with its time period to the other.

All of the late 18th century sims are set in the 1770's, and that is fine for most purposes: all of the social, noble, stylistic, and political issues are close enough in time to avoid discrepancies. Most. But not all as you move from the beginning of the decade to the end--especially if the events across that big stretch of water are taken into account and a new, significant nation rose and and burst into being.

So, if you were (to take one example) an ambassador reporting to the republic of Venezia about events in Georgian England in sl, you would be going back and forth between 1779 and 1775--four years that few would fail to agree were not only significant for those two countries but also eventually would affect all of Europe in one way or the other.

So, granting that there might be immediate resistance to this thought (but taking into account the excellent cooperation and growth of these sims due to the hard work, talent, and expense of their creators), might it not be helpful in the long run to find a mutually acceptable YEAR: perhaps one year beyond the highest so nobody's history is affected, 1780.

If not, perhaps an agreement to keep the time period less exact might work: 1770-1780.

I have not put in the time and effort that those who have created and maintained these areas have, so this is just a thought for discussion.
