Palacio Ducal de Bexar Closing

Communty News & Events

Exploring the palace of Bexar was one of my earliest experiences of Antiquity, and I will always remember it fondly. Thank you for these images of a grand palace that will live on in our hearts.

Duke Crotian certainly excelled in construction of the Royal Crescent at Regency Somerset, as well as the other builds you mention. I will look forward to seeing what he and Duchess Twelfth have in store for us!

Wishing you a most calm and uneventful move to your new home, Your Grace, Prince Jacon, and wishing all of Antiquity much pleasure in the new architecture we'll enjoy.

Remains of D. Pedro II and Princess Isabel of Brazil may be exhumed

History

How fascinating that their voices and walks will be recreated as well as their appearance. This amazes me. And what possibilities it opens up for virtual worlds and virtual people, eh? Thank you for sharing this.

I agree with what's been said: more photos! That said I appreciate the ones they have shared. Especially glad they gave us a back view of the gowns, so we can see those pleated bustles. I like, too, seeing that it wasn't all brocade and lace, but some whimsy, like the giant embroidered flowers on a bodice.

17 Haunting Post-Mortem Photographs From The 1800s

History

I think you're right that there has been a change in peoples' sense of creepiness around these photos and I'd add, around death itself. People witnessed death more commonly and it was accepted as a normal part of life. Now, so many natural deaths take place in institutions, it's only the grisly violent deaths we might see in photos, in the news.

Personally I can't imagine wanting to see a photo of a loved one dead. I'm trying to imagine how it would feel to want to have such a keepsake, but that's a part of Victorian sensibility I maybe can understand, but just can't feel -- can't feel the wish to see dead photos any more than I can feel the wish to hide living bodies from neck to wrist to toe!
