Royal Courts Ning: ♥ 2015 Fundraiser ♥ August 1st

Site News & Guidelines

Some silly building project I worked on last month has sapped all my L and more ;-) so I can't contribute at the inworld location right now. But I was happy to dump those L into the Decades project and so glad it raised enough L for now. :)

It would be great if something ongoing could keep building on the collaboration among history sims!

19th Century come-on cards - classier than a random TP?

History

Check out this collection of quaint come-ons!

I find they're an equal measure of charming and alarming. Like modern pickup lines, I have to ask, did that ever really work on anyone?

Christmas Gifts from Antiquity

Communty News & Events

Be sure to check very, very high in the branches for my gifts. I put up four ornaments.

The long ones are for gents and the round ones are for ladies.

(Don't ask me how I decided gents' were long and ladies' were round.)

The silver ones are a repeat of something I gave to friends for Solstice so if you already got that, skip the silver ones.

The gold ones are a brand new Antiquity-special, useful for wearing in your modern adventures for everyday, your-round fun.

Time Capsule from 1795 found in Boston, Mass., USA *OPENED*

History

Oh, yes, cool! I see several reports confirming the opening date of 6 January 2015, and this one describes the contents as revealed thus far by xray:

Time Capsule from 1795 found in Boston, Mass., USA *OPENED*

History

Well, darn, it sounds like they don't plan to open it any time soon. They're going to add some things, and save it for... how much later?

Do you suppose perhaps devout observations of the Samhain holiday might appease the spirits?

Baroque in Britain: 5 15-minute radio docs

History

Would Charles I have escaped execution if he had not been such an avid art collector?

History via art - I was just telling Tiamat last night how much I enjoy her art exhibits in which she so skillfully uses paintings to follow cultural trends. Then just now I stumbled across this series which aired in Spring 2013. Fascinating ideas are raised in this brief radio series.

I'm sure many of you already caught these nice 15-minute snippets of culture and history, Baroque in Britain, but here they are for those who, like me, missed them, or those who would like to listen again. I'm just linking the first one and you can find the rest from there.

Baroque in Britain, Episode 1 of 5

And since I looked them up as I listened, I'll share these with you too:

The last thing Charles I saw on this earth.

Utter invention, appropriated as a trophy in a gesture equally baroque.

How the might fall...and rise again.

A decorating challenge: The Royal Crescent

Art & Architecture

The Pastoral Suite has the refined rusticity and touch of whimsy that only a true aristocrat can afford.

There are some fun surprises in this suite's decor that I don't want to even try to capture in pictures. Really, the entire Crescent must be seen, and walked through, to be appreciated.
