Social Butterfly Clothing Swap

Bonjour! Speaking with a friend earlier this morning about cleaning out inventory for the New Year we hit upon a fabulous idea ofhaving a clothing swap!

Guidelines for the Swap -

  • Items for swap must be "transfer items only."
  • All items must be boxed.
  • Everyone trading clothes/accessories must bring at LEAST 4 items. But remember bring only transfer items.

How it works:
The mingling, eating and viewing of clothes/accessories ensues and the swap begins on time.

Whenthe swap begins everyone chooses their first item, which is calledFirst Picks. Once everyone chooses their first item, we move ontosecond and third and fourth. Once we get to five, the floor is usuallyopened for a free for all where everyone rushes around grabbing all theitems they want (organized mayhem) till everyone has enough new stuff.

Heresthe fun part! If more than one person wants the same item, both try iton the rest of the party goers decide on who it looks best (mini-fashion week on my patio). That person gets to keep it (everyone is friends so this rarely happens and when it does it is all in fun).

I will be hosting this OOC baroque event at my home in the Duche de Coeur, Aquitaine Coeur Sud. You do not have to swap to attend you can just come and be a passive observer of the chaos lol.

If you would like to participate contact me here on the ning or in-world.Once I have enough participants I will set up the event with Landmark and send a note card of the above information for participants!

Oh what a good idea! Since in SL we most of us haven't any servants to hand our clothes on to ... :^D Sounds like terrific fun and of course will help move gowns around, please put me down for it!!

I think it sounds FUN! I also don't think our crowd would be disrespectful or say mean things. If it does happen then shame on them. I have tons of gowns I no longer wear so I'll try to be there.

when is this event? I would love to take part in it. I am afraid that I already gave away big parts of my older warderobe, but i am sure I will find some lovely gowns that I would love to share.

so general question: when?

In response to Stormy's comment - as a dilletante designer myself, I'd feel a bit miffed if some of my creations WEREN'T offered for trade!

I also thought that it may be a good opportunity for us designers to 'swap' a bit of our own lovingly hand-made product and grab someone's else's covetable pieces! I doubt there are any men's pieces up for trading - our wardrobes are far more limited than you lovely ladies - but my sister Jeanne-Charlotte is definitely after some new frocks, so I may make an appearance on her behalf!

As a caveat, I think you should maybe say no freebie gowns/accessories? I am sure no-one would offer them - at least not intentionally - but best to have it in writing, perhaps?

I think this is a fabulous idea! Being still somewhat of a newbie still, i have purchased things in triples, or made mistake purchases, which there are norefunds for and i don't have an alt to give it to, or just does plain do not wear it anymore because i buy so much, and lastly but not leat, some look beautiful until i put it on my body type...hehe, everyone here knows i am rather..um busty. As i grow and experience different situations in sl, my taste evolves along with it, and being new, i have close to now 40,000 items ininventory, houses and dresses mostly, lol, and would love a chance to share, trade, or even give away, as there are those among us, sadly, who have lost or experienced a decreased income. I would never say anything bad about a designer's creation, as much time and thought, lovingly went into each, otherwise why would i have purchased it to begin with.I most certainly would never compare myself to anyone else in adress, aswe are all different..besides i get enough ribbing over my bust, lol. Please let me know this event will be.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one who has "houses", plural. :^) And I mean ... plural.

And quite right, I mean, my taste has certainly "evolved" over time and our designers here have gotten better and better ... to be honest the new ones now start out near where the good ones were 3 years ago and rapidly jump up ... but anyone who has attempted to build anything in-world, or even just tried to adjust her gowns to fit her, can realize how much work goes into one gown. I worked on them two years ago and got to where I could make a decent gown but ... the grid used to "eat" things a lot back then and ... there was a terrible moment, when I was moving and taking my workshop with half-done dresses, no-copy workbench, pose stand, etc, into inventory to move it and ... the grid was hungry ... I had saved some copies but I never had the heart to go back into it, but from my experience in making my own textures (hello, museum website, do you mind if I copy this lovely fabric? oh thank goodness you don't mind!!), cutting prims, making them hang just so, adjusting flex and gravity (aaaggghh!) and on and on, I so respect any lady who can bring out a collection of gowns. Other ladies tend to make the kind of gowns I see in my mind, and now MA makes the wigs I want, why duplicate effort? I just need to buckle down and learn Blender so I can start churning out some lovely mobilier!
