Nothing serious, Signorina. It was merely that at the recent gaming party at his home, Signor Gandt lost a wager which required that he go for a swim some distance from the beach, despite the reality that he is unable to swim. Being a man of his word, he elected to fulfill the terms of the wager at the sea bathing event we held the other day. He did, in fact, make his way out to my small boat, some distance from shore. Yes, during the last portion of his "swim" he was sort of underwater and gurgling a lot, but it all turned out fine.

As for the thalers--the Baronessa made a side wager with me that our friend would not make it. We were pleased that she was mistaken and lost. I have asked her to donate the funds to the accademia.

I met Signor Gandt later that day (by then he was dry)If I had known he was such an able swimmer I would have gotten in on the debt

Of course everyone is happy he didnt drown. So that might be enough.;)

Really? Thenyou must blame me being a scatterbrain- I was convinced it was afterwards.

As for your further comment (no doubt intended to portray you as some byronic hero) lol

No man is an island Signor Gandt... I highly doubt you wouldnt leave a void if you disappeared:P

"a day could come when you lose a wager against me"

That sounds ominious...Want to bet on that? :)
