Goya Exhibition, "The Parasol"
La Baronessa accompanied me to the Goya exhibit at the Spanish Court. "The Parasol" directly behind her is one of everyone's favorites in the show. The irony is that the young man is not using the parasol to shield his mistress from the sun, but from the wind of the approaching storm. A metaphor, perhaps?
This work is conserved in the Prado Museum since 1870 and using this Museum as source, this picture represents a young woman sitting accompanied by a dog and a young man (majo) who protects her from the sun with an umbrella.
It is not clear whether she is a lady with her servant or it is a scene of flirtation (based on her direct gaze and complicity smile to the viewer, who may become the accomplice of their courtship).
Sorry, I didnt find any reference about an approaching storm.
( I feel the delay but I have not seen your photo before)
