Sad End of a grande fete
the court was dancing as bright as ever when suddently the harpsichord caught fire. The following events are logical: An uncontrolable bunch of wealthy courtiers trying to escape. Some even locked the doors to the burning ballroom to be safe while others were trapped in there. Eventually a brave gentleman broke one of the windows which saved the life of many.
I'm glad you were all safe, but alas, feasts and balls always have a sad ending, leaving an empty and melancholy room , where just before joy and laughters reigned supreme. As Victor Hugo will write:" Quels tristes lendemains laisse le bal foltre!Adieu, parures, et danse, et rires enfantins..."(btw, how unpleasant and distasteful from the fire to attack such splendidly furnished and decorated appartements!)
