Almost without warning, the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia was overwhelmed by the sea. Fiorino Pera, orphan, walked out into the flooded piazza in the early morning of 26 June. He is terrified by what might happen to his city and wonders what those in charge will do when they awake.
