Path for Antiquity in Summer of 2015

Communty News & Events

Greetings and Salutations Antiquity,

It has been my extreme honor to help run the Estate of Antiquity for the last 5 years. Over this time, working with a group of the most talented administrators and owners one could hope for, helped build an Estate we are all proud to call home....from the Texas Capitol Building, that has stood in the same place since Jan. 2008 and the surrounding plaza to the open seas, ports and let us not forget our huge forest area, filled with palaces and roads, areas to explore and unwind. Antiquity truly lives up to its name, touching the greatest eras of the past. The fantastic builds, details and warm atmosphere are what make Antiquity special to us.

With that said, we are being forced by economic issues to downsize Antiquity so that it can continue being home for all that love her. For the past week, the administrators and owners of Antiquity have been discussing the best possible solution to the cost squeeze. It has been decided that the best option is to cut the cost of tiers by reducing the number of sims.

A plan to cut 4 sims has been proposed and evaluated. We are in the process of contacting our residents with time and helping them through all this. We understand this is not easy, but we all want to make sure Antiquity survives. The admins and owners are all in agreement. We carry on. Smaller is better then the other options.

Some of the sims we keep may be moved around in order to maximize the sailing.

This is something that has been very difficult to do. I love SL, but the cost of land here is just not possible with our current size. I even wrote a note to linden, begging to reconsider prices. Ebbe himself mentioned that nobody should have to lose a creation over the high cost of tiers. But until SL changes their price structure, bringing it more in line with InWorldz or better yet, OpenSim, we will have to downsize a bit.

Just this week we got news of two old established sims closing. Goatswood and Venexia will be closing in June, due to the high cost of tiers. These two are just added to a long list of estates closing due to the high cost to maintain them. It is a shame Linden Labs has not realized the huge amount of art that is being lost every month due to the high cost of tiers. People's dreams, communities, homes, lost, due to this. I hope soon they will see this and cut us a break.

As it stands, most of the French region and gardens will have to be removed. The Forest will be thinned out and kept at its most basic. We are keeping the forest for now, to allow for our showing of Buckingham and for anyone that may want to keep a home up there, but we will also have to evaluate the situation on the status of Buckingham towards the end of summer.

With all that said, it breaks my heart to have to remove any of what has been built here. As soon as the tiers here get more reasonable, we will be able to restore it all to its former self. Also, if for some reason, we find concrete committed renters that would like to step forward and rent some of the sims, or maybe the French Chateau de Clagny and its gardens, Dominica and its lovely tropical forest and champaign reef and historical stone fort, there is still time. We still have a little bit of time to make the final decision. There are many locations that could be sponsored to help keep them on display in Antiquty. Maybe a group of families would like to get together and sponsor Clagny as a summer retreat, or the the tunnels of Mount Antiquity. If you ever wanted to be a part of Antiquity, now is the time.

I would also like to take a moment to thank the people that have been donating what they can to help us. Twelfthnight donating sales from her dresses to Antiquity, Cathryn and the wonderful store that she has set up to benefit Antiquity. All the great people that have donated time and objects to the emporium. All the people that run events, Pamus, Pz, Tessa, Eddy, Rose, Bea and Drez, Bella and Misty on Sunday, Tia with the Calendar, and Burton, Annie, lil Carline and Fang with Market, and Diego with the Merchants runs that help keeps us going. All the great builders, Cousin Crotian and Louis. Master builders, all the others that drop lindens in our donation boxes. Our merchants that have stores here. Pirate Roberts, and family, Cara and all her support, Thomas and the Continentals. Cousin Claudia and Prissy, Inish and Okwa, Bob, Owaci. Gai with MSB and Brendon in Somerset. Our Ambassador O'Flaherty. All the people that come to battle with us, join in on our horse or battle events. KarenKate and Howard Community College. Our long time supporters that are too many to mention, I know I left out lots of people so feel free to bash me. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

These, in short, are our plans for Antiquity moving forward. If by some miracle in the next couple weeks, we secure funding for one or all of the sims or areas, these plans could change in the next couple weeks. I should also note, if you have not visited the Antiquity France or Antiquity Dominica, please take a moment to see these beautiful creations. The beautiful little seaside village on Antiquity Caribbean. They are just beautiful and worth getting a look at.

Antiquity is our home. Many of us have lived here for the majority of our SL lives. We have friends and loved ones here. For that reason, we want to ensure that Antiquity can survive any turmoil that may come our way, and secure our home for many more years to come.

One last favor, take a moment, pray, send positive thoughts to the Linden Gods, to take an ax to tiers.

We will keep everyone updated with changes as we go forward till we get it all figured out.. Thank you all for your continued and much needed support.

Clothes are an issue. There is nothing I have found in period. I have 3 terribly made suits, when I was testing clothes making, and figured out, it was way too difficult for me. Twelfthnight will eventually be bringing in some clothes, but rl will not allow her to do it for a few months. until then. it seems, clothes are very limited.

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

Greetings and Salutations

With Ning moving to include groups from sl and alternative grids, and Tatiana mentioning a thread on content for other grids, I thought I would mention some of my thoughts on all this. I would love to hear other experiences or opinions as well.

Recently, we opened an estate on the Kitely grid. We have started some building and soon will be able to start moving in. I have also started exporting some of my jewelry from SL to Kitely so that I can list on the kitely Market. Worth mentioning, now, if you are a creator, you can sell you items to multiple grids in one place. The Kitely Market has an Export Feature.

http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2015/05/kitely-markets-hypergrid-listings-grew-50-times-as-fast-as-other-items/

This allows you to sell to people in the Kitely Grid, where you upload your sale items, but it also lets you sell to other grids, such as OSGrid, Metropolis, Avination, Great Canadian Grid, FrancoGrid , 3rd Rock Grid, to name some of the more popular ones. Items sold can be bought in Kitely dollars or via paypal. kitely dollars are not able to be converted to dollars, but I do believe you can set it for paypal payment only. Permissions are pretty much the same but, Kitely market offers an additional permission on the webpage. Export. With Export, it will deliver to other grids, and allow them to use the items. It will still respect the regular permissions you set. Also, if you are selling jewelry or clothes, Export is the way to go. That way the person that purchases it can wear you gown to a different grid. If it is not export, you cannot hypergrid to another grid until you remove the non exportable item.

Getting your items out of Sl and imported to another grid can be done in various ways. There is a great video by Pathfinder that explains.

https://vimeo.com/111304760

These grids, compared to SL, are very small, but there is growth.

http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2015/05/opensim-users-regions-hit-new-record-highs/

As most know by now, SL2 will be entering closed beta sometime this summer, with the finished product opening up maybe by this time next year. This will have effects on our current world, no doubt about it. What those effects will be, is any ones guess.

Another thing worth mentioning is the OAR backups. Opensim runs on an opensource program. You can host your own grid on a personal server if you wanted. You can make a complete copy of your regions to save to your harddrive. If you wanted to move to another grid or host it on your own personal server you could.

I would love to work with other creators and people that might be interested in promoting our lifestyle and creations to a small but growing community.

Antiquity will always be in SL, and our location in Hypergrid is not meant to replace our SL estate. We hope to start a period presence. Many people in other grids still have SL accounts and do visit. There will soon be a host of other grids. SL2, InWorldz, Hypergrid, High Fidelity and a possible facebook virtual experience and others. Grid hopping will play more, as friends move back and forth from sl1 to sl2, or maybe to InWorldz, or hypergrid. I believe cost will also play an important part in any ones decision. InWorldz is priced much lower then SL right now by about 1/3. Opensim regions are even cheaper.

On our Kitely Estate, we have extra room and prims. I would be happy to share some land and prims for groups or creators that might want to explore other places or try out selling on the market. No charge. I am not looking to make money out of this, land is cheap and its more about having a safe place to base yourself while you explore and get to know how it all works and start to build a historical group of sims and try to reach more people.

I believe that InWorldz and Opensim are great places to expand. They are very similar to SL. SL2 will be all mesh. So if your not a mesh builder, that may limit building in sl2.

Virtual Worlds are changing fast. The media mentions of Virtual Reality of some sort is crazy. Once Oculus and Mophius, Samsung Gear really get going, the potential for growth is looking very good.

I would love to hear other thoughts on this. This is all kinda new to me, new grids and all, but i do think changes are coming and I think expanding and exploring may be a good thing.

Decades Festival: Call for RP Community Listings in SL and Elsewhere

General Discussion

Good evening

I am very pleased to see this topic being discussed. As Princess Tiamat mentioned, Antiquity has founded a location on the Kitely Grid and started building of Blenheim Palace to serve as the Summer Palace for the coming Antiquity British Court, the Princess Royal of Antiquity, and all the Royal Family and Nobles. It is our hope to expand our exposure to more people and serve to compliment our SL Location. Prince Crotian and Princess Twelfthnight have also been in the process of building a wonderful castle.

It is my hope, that we see more either expansions of courts from SL or new upcoming courts, that can work together to promote our historical lifestyles. Yes, we may be from different eras, but we do all love the basic idea of historical life.

One thought. In the near future, SL 2 will be entering closed beta, and may be open for business by this time next year. This will create an interesting choice that many in SL had never even contemplated. Logging on to or moving to a different grid. As we are still unsure what type of effect SL2 will have on our current SL, one thing is starting to be very clear. Multiple worlds are here and we should embrace it.

I will prepare the landing area and repost a hypergrid link for our Kitely location in the next few days. I would be more then happy to place signs for your rp Louis or your area Stephanie, in our visitors area. My jewelry store will be there as well, which i hope will bring visitors as well.

Changes coming to our World

General Discussion

Thank you for taking the time to read and replay. As I stated, Antiquity will be in SL for as long as there is an SL. But that said, there are changes coming. I believe, we are in a unique position. Over the years, the residents of the Royal Courts have together help set a standard for quality and detail. The creators of the various Royal Courts and Estates, were not satisfied with the plain. I remember the days of 15 prim chairs. Even with the high prim count, we figured out a way to still fill the palaces and estates we had created. The gowns, another perfect example. The ladies of the courts demanded the highest quality gowns and accessories. This push our creators to create even more detailed and elaborate gowns. It was the high standards we set for our estates, that in turn, created a demand for the highest quality items.

Everyone that is part of the Royal Courts and Estates know this, but SL at large does not. Yes, they have beautiful items for sale. But as a group, we have some of the most talented creators in SL. There are beautiful mansions in SL, yes, but we also have some of the most elegant and detailed estates in SL.

This is our strength. and with all my previous rambling, it boils down to just this. I believe we could find ways to work together, to highlight all the creative talent that is living with us and further promote and highlight to possible new residents, the oasis of beauty that is the Royal Courts and Estates of SL.

Changes coming to our World

General Discussion

Great minds think alike I guess....lol....I have admired your dedication to this site for a long time. I cannot thank you enough for offering us this platform to be able to network better between the courts and estates. I agree with everything you have said. Your estate has always been top knotch as is your designing.

When I started this, I had no intention to run Antiquity. I was very satisfied as an obscure somewhat terrible jewelry designer. But as events played out, you play the hand dealt you. And you are 100% correct. It is not force or power that creates and enduring estate. It is caring and loving it, honesty and fairness.

I think there are various opportunities that will present themselves to our community. Finding ways on on collaborating on some of these i think will be beneficial to our community as a whole. I look forward to working with you and all and am ready to help in any way I can.

Changes coming to our World

General Discussion

yes, I do think better cooperation and communication between courts and estates would be a good first step. the power of group thinking would be a benefit to all here. It seems every day, the people that participate in the period lifestyles we do, get smaller and smaller. With all the possible avenues that lie ahead, working together will get us farther. At least that is my thinking
