what would you think of holding the event on the un-named island that is in between the Duchy and Bay of Naples?

Royal Courts Ning: ♥ 2015 Fundraiser ♥ August 1st

that's an interesting idea Stephanie -- the fact is for lots of us, the interest in history does cross boundaries and time periods -- the hard part would be trying to decide with alt and outfit to wear for a party like that

but seriously I can't think that it would hurt to try to foster more interaction between the different time periods and places

Royal Courts Ning: ♥ 2015 Fundraiser ♥ August 1st

Site News & Guidelines

Hey Tat, it sounds like whatever the course of action ends up being, you need to raise funds to keep some form of discussion site in operation, correct? Whether it's on a different platform, or Ning or Ning Jr. (provided Ning survives), annual or monthly, we need to contribute if we want to have this as a tool for communication. And Merc brings up an important point: there aren't as many active people on the site, because at present SL has fewer active historical players. For that matter, there aren't as many active historical sims and those that remain tend to share the shrinking pool of people with an active interest in this stuff.

So yes there are things that we might look at doing to raise additional resources for supporting our discussion site -- for example, maybe not just soliciting donations of Lindens, but also how about soliciting donations of things we all make, such as jewelry, clothing, weapons, textures, furnishings etc., to sell at various donated locations on various historical sims -- which might generate some income from people who don't have a direct interest in the site as participants and contributors (in effect expanding the pool of people we are drawing funds from). But maybe this is also a good time to look at reorganizing the entire concept here and adpating to the reality that the market this site serves has changed?

Should this site perhaps include more emphasis on other grids besides SL? Should there be separate sections for those other girds (which also might help promote their use?) and perhaps special "reporters" or "editors" assigned to solicit and collect information from other grids?

Should the theme and scope of the site be expanded too? More people means more activity and more sources of support. To get more people, should we move beyond the very specific and to a certain extent, very narrow category of "Royal Courts," and include all historically themed communities we can find in SL and on other grids?

Maybe this is a good time to do things differently?

living history scenario in Rocca Sorrentina

Communty News & Events

Dear fellow history enthusiasts,

Starting tomorrow Friday August 1, at 2 PM SLT with Dr. Greymoon's discussion of the humors of the body, we will be having an ongoing series of activities and events in Rocca Sorrentina around a certain historical theme that will unfold as we go. Anyone is welcome to take part, but we do ask that you have a human avatar and 18th century clothing if you intend to participate in the various scenarios, as all but one event will be IC.

Activities related to this will follow this schedule (all times are SLT):

Friday Aug. 1

2 - 3 PM -- medical discussion at the tavern (IC)

Saturday Aug. 2

11 AM - 12 PM -- coffee hour (IC)

1 - 2 PM -- public meeting at the fortezza (IC)

2 - 3 PM -- historical discussion at the anfiteatro (OOC)

Sunday Aug. 3

10 - 11 AM -- rp activity at the accademia

Tuesday Aug. 5

7 PM -- social event at the home of il Professore (IC)

Wednesday Aug. 6

TBA -- religious service

Thursday Aug. 7

1 PM -- social event at Mercury's house (IC)

Thursday evening TBA -- religious service (IC)

Other activities and events may be announced in conjunction with this scenario. Again, this is an optional rp activity and if you just want to watch the story play out without having to directly participate, that is OK!

18th century Men in Black. Thank you to Dr. Greymoon, Mercury Gandt and Dr. Panacek for helping to organize and equip this scenario.
