D'oh! A correction, if you please...

Communty News & Events

Hi Folks,

I must apologize that last night when I posted the calendar notice about the music party on Sunday, August 4 on behalf of Alexandrine and Jean-Matisse, I put the wrong time on it. This has now been corrected.

It will start at 1:00 PM SLT NOT 9:00 AM.

Sorry about that. This is why I should stop trying to do things that require any thought in the middle of the night.

Aldo

thank you for posting this, Mercury. This should greatly simplify the process for educators to get the educational/non-profit discount. It was a big disappointment when LL officially ended the discount a few years ago, so this is good news. We were able to get the discount back in May for Sorrentina, but it took a bit of effort to find the right person to ask.

Tia, one strategy that might help make it more cost effective would be for you to do like we did with Sorrentina and adopt an existing sim rather than setting up a new one -- then the only cost (besides buying it from the previous owner, for whatever price you agree to) is to pay the transfer fee (and then paying the tier, of course).

Ning 3.0: Time to Clean Up Groups & Members

Site News & Guidelines

ah, that's an interesting solution, with the ability to hold inactive groups and members in suspension and ask them to "opt in" to remain in the community. That would certainly make for a lot fewer messages getting dumped in your lap than if everyone had to opt in.

I think the key is making it an active choice to remain in the community, rather than something passive, or forcing you to do too much guesswork. That's not fair to you. And yes, you are correct that it is a fair assumption that those who post regularly (or at least periodically in the last six months) or who made a donation are very definitely opting in by contributing to the dynamic nature of the community. At the same time, yes, there are some folks who due to shyness or a lack of time may never have posted, but who do enjoy reading the posts and like to feel they belong to the community. Giving them a means to let you know they are still out there and care is important.

Ning 3.0: Time to Clean Up Groups & Members

Tatiana, would it make sense to simply put out a message asking that any group admin. who wants to keep a group should notify you by a certain date? Any group which doesn't respond by that time could be safely deleted. You cold do the same with members...ask for members who want to stay in the Ning to send you a message -- I know that is a lot of message potentially dumping in your lap, but it does seem like this is a major challenge, figuring out who is really still here and who isn't, and asking them seems the surest method.

Reggia di Caserta: Countdown to the next closing!

Communty News & Events

Alas, Highness, this is regrettable news especially after the adventures you had in getting the build established. It is a lovely build and we have enjoyed your art exhibits very much. It is good to know that you will continue to maintain the build on another gird. I think this is an excellent example of your admirable tenacity and adaptability. We all wish you well.

New literary discussion series starts in July!

Communty News & Events

~

Over the course of the next year, you are invited to take part in WORDS OF ENLIGHTENMENT: A Discussion Series on Books and Plays of the 18th Century

The first of these discussions will be on Sat, July 6, 10am 11am at the Accademia di Rocca Sorrentina

[ http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Westphalia/79/46/23 ] (map)

The Enlightenment, sometimes referred to as the Age of Reason, was a confluence of ideas and activities that took place throughout the eighteenth century in Western Europe, England, and the American colonies. Scientific rationalism, exemplified by the scientific method, was the hallmark of the era, and it was accompanied by a conviction that the application of reason would guarantee progress in all aspects of human existence. During the same period new printing technologies produced a surge in the amount of reading material available to the general public. Literature was no longer the sole purview of aristocrats and wealthy merchants, and literacy rates rose dramatically during the eighteenth century, as the upwardly mobile citizenry clamored for information, gossip, and entertainment.

Discussions of some of the better known works of prose and drama from the 18th century will take place at the Accademia di Rocca Sorrentina at 10:00 am on the fourth Saturday of the month (excepting the first session)

Virtual copies of the books may be obtained inworld at the Accademia di Rocca Sorrentina (SLURL above) or by contacting Serenek Timeless or Aldo Stern. These are OOC (out of character) discussions -- The wearing of 18th century attire (and human avatars) is NOT required, but certainly is encouraged.

Oh, don't be silly, Summer. "Aldo" would be a perfectly ridiculous name for the British monarch. "King Nigel I" on the other hand, has real gravitas...
