Historically informed mesh building kits for those of us who are all thumbs!

Textures, Mesh & Other Building Components

3538_discussions.png

As anyone who knows Sister is aware, she is no builder of anything beyond rugs, framed artwork. Sometimes she can turn out a decent chair or other simple object if she has a GOOD mesh template with maps, etc., etc. It's taken her nearly two years to feel proficient when it comes to adding sits to chairs, etc. The result: enough chairs to seat a small army of avatars!

There are some terrific creators of full perm mesh building kits. But until recently I haven't seen much aimed at those of us who dream of being able to create things like carriages that are both well made and faithful to the historical originals. I did find a lovely chamber pot, but how many of those can an 18th century lady display without it becoming somewhat vulgar....

And then, I stumbled across this! I went wild and bent the ear of the creator Leo Maven of DECOR DEPOT. He has kindly offered to create some things for the next DECADES Festival, venture, galleries, etc. and gave me the ok to post a photo of the HANSOM CAB full perm building kit he released today. I'm buying a copy. The Haven where Lorsagne hangs her hat when she is not visiting RP sims has been in serious want of a "proper" carriage. If you are looking for something like this, go to DECOR DEPOT and tell the creator that supporting historically based builds in SL is both good business and the right thing to do.

New Classic Avatars are Now Available in Second Life!

General Discussion

The where to find it is important...I find myself biting my tongue a good bit of the time when somebody tells someone who wants to stick her/his toe into the 18th century to go shopping at one of the what I call (tactfully) "slut wear shops" with fantasy french clothes.

Absolutely! I can't make clothes (my skills are limited to 'fiddling' with paintings and furniture) but I will help any way I can! Just holler. TwelfthNight did a wonderful write up of the fashions of the 18th century for the DECADES festival . . . it explained so clearly the why we all looked that way! To include her write up would be a boon for a noob I would think.

I think that is a fabulous idea! I'd love to see a starter pack for all the eras....ancient Rome through the 1940s even....for each historical sim/community in a sense.

Well-said. And such a welcome change from the usual images on the sign in page. Not a dance pole, 'cheesecake' or crazed zombie in sight!

Woman Dressed in 18th Century Fashion Lives in the Modern World for Funny Photo Series

General Discussion

At the risk of violating all standards and rules of "gender equality" -- WOMEN SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUMP THEIR OWN GAS.

One of the losses of modern life: filling station attendants who would wash your windshield, check the oil and tire pressure, fill 'er up and give a dog cookie to the pooch in the back seat.
