Yes, this sketch is not lying to you, you are seeing Madame du Barry, Madame Victoire, and Madame Royale all in the same room ... and what is more, the Duchesse de Montbazon (the artist just caught her wig at the bottom of the picture). Fortunately the royal sisters had a gentlemanly champion in the Prince de Conde, Mme du Barry likewise in the Comte de Provence, so a semblance of pleasantness was kept for nearly two hours ... however it could not last. In the end only Montbazon and I had some of the lovely champagne I'd had Gaston bring up for the occasion (sigh). But at least my apartment did not catch fire, I was a bit afraid it might do so with such antagonists gathered!
