How Infidelity Helped Create the Novel. Cheating and literature have long been the perfect match.

Although it may not be good for the soul, adultery has been very good for literature.

And good, above all, for the novel, a genre that is unthinkable without matrimonial disaster. Straying husbands and wives have, of course, been great subjects since long before the printing press was invented.

I thought this was an interesting article especially since I enjoyed checking off the novels that I've read and those that I haven't. It's also the first time I've heard that Anna Karenina was serialized over five years. Wow!  That was a long wait to get to the end.

So how about you?  Which of the novels mentioned have you read? Did you enjoy them?  Would you read them again? Have they aged well?
