Stanislas Ponders Fate
Stanislas stands outside of the bibliotheque de dauphin, his favourite room in the entire palace, pondering the fate of the Bourbon line. Several courtiers overheard this prince of France ask the Abbe' the night before at Madame Victoire's salon if a legitimized son could have the same inheritance as children within a Christian marriage. More than a few of the gossip-hungry attendees were left wondering if a royal scandal is soon to develop, and if so (particularly if the dauphine and the comtesse de Provence remain childless), will a bastard child one day rule France?
I dare say their Serene Highnesses the Duc de Chartres and the Prince de Conde might have something to say about this! Oh that Madame (Liselotte) and Madame de Maintenon were alive again ...
I wonder what will come of this
