From The Virtual Diary of Hester Lynch Thrale Piozzi: Dressing For a Festival
5 June 1785
It seems that there is to be a festival, a celebration of history in its many facets. I am told it is to be held in a place appropriately named Vahalla! One starts to wonder what to wear to such an occasion. Perhaps pink will bring up the color in my cheeks? I'll have to ask that very fashion forward lady of France, Mlle. de Sade, what she thinks.
My dear friend and neighbor,
Since returning to Sorrentina your lovely color has revived. There are roses blooming in your cheeks now...in part due to the good sea air we enjoy on the island, but I suspect that having your beloved at your side the past weeks is the true source of both your contentment and your color.
We are both of an age when shades of pink and peach are both flattering and appealing to those for whom we dress. But you, my dear, look well in everything you put on. It is love that makes the difference is it not?
With great affection and regard,
Lorsagne
