Africa I : Dangerous Grasslands
The ship had been low on provisions... and a couple of square sails were ripped in the last storm and needed replacing. So we made our way to Capetown, South Africa. It is a settlement owned and operated by the Dutch East India company, and it serves as a way station for traveling ships passing through the area. We couldn't have come at a worse time... there was a severe drought and food was extremely scarce. The entire town was barely able to provide the needs of such a large ship, so some of the crew and I decided to hunt bush meat to supplement what we have already purchased in town. Out on the veldt, the rules of the land are hunt or be hunted. Because of the famine, the large hunters were definitely out on the prowl. And appearing out of nowhere, one particular large cat had decided to have me on the menu. Unable to load and draw my musket in time, I hastily draw my saber and prepare for the fight of my life.
Great picture !!
*thinks: What a brave man...
