In honor of the signing of the Concordat between France and the Holy See, which concidentally occurred on Napoleon Bonaparte's birthday, August 15th became a national festival under the First and Second Empires. Who was Saint Napoleon? Little is known about this figure hastily prepared to lend an aire of sanctity to the Emperor's birthday. He does not appear in the Roman Martyrology, but is by tradition linked to a St. Neopolis, said to have been martyred in Naples at the beginning of the Fourth Century AD.
I am SURE it was a (literal) clerical error, a teensy overlook, that left Saint-Napoleon out of the Martyrology ... >.>
