) Developing the economy is one of the most fascinating parts of the RP (for me anyway) ! It certainly is a way to understand economics in a hands-on fashion. It's interesting to note that the developer of RPS has a background in economics and so there was a lot of thought built into the system in the first place. I have also been in correspondence with one of the leaders of a merchant guild in another RP environment which confirmed some of my assumptions and added new twists to my thinking. Here is what I understand so far.We are going to have a system that uses RP$ but there is also a place for L$. You just can't limit to one or the other. I will try to give examples of how & where I think they will be used.RP$ can be earned by everyone using the RPS system (which keeps track of them) and they have no real value whatsoever but are meant to encourage a richer role play environment. Every character begins with RP$0. First there are basic needs. Just like real life, earning $RP dollars often has a physical or mental cost to it. The harder you work the more tired & hungry you get. This means that you are going to have to eat or drink something to replenish your energy. It makes sense that role play careers & the tasks associated with them will earn RP$. Likewise food, drink, etc. are sold for RP$. I am sure that there will also be some luxury items that are only available for RP$.Its also important to remember that we are role playing to have fun. If I venture into a cave full of pirates, they may demand a ransom to let me go. Now losing RP$ is all part of the adventure but losing L$ (which have a real cash value) wouldnt be.L$ come into play because of the real life realities associated with maintaining the environment. Tiers must be paid to LL for the land and so rentals/prim usage must be recovered in L$. Creators also have real life dollar costs (land fees again being the major one). Though I would love to be able to provide all my pre-fabs & furniture for free, I just cant afford to even though these items can be used in a role play environment. Trasgos idea of a wine press is another example of something that could be sold for L$. Currently, there are items built specifically for RPS that can only be purchased with L$, the best examples being weaponry & magic aids. We will be looking to extend this market with other items that interact with the RPS, are complex in nature & more specific to our role play environment.Thats it in a nutshell for now. We have other ideas about the pricing of items, how to seed an economy with basics and then letting market supply & demand take over. I would be happy to discuss that as well if anyone is interested. It certainly is an exciting adventure!!
The Duch de Coeur is a friendly and romantic land inspired by historical France during The Age of Enlightenment (17th-19th centuries). The Duch de Coeur has always had an emphasis on fun, friendship, romance & community building. Titles are given out on a "merit" system which means that anyone can move up the ranks by supporting & participating in the community. It also means that those people that are content to just drop in occassionally for fun are always welcomed. Work or play, role play or not, it's all good in the Duchy. For those people looking for a new and exciting challenge , we are now delighted to be extending our role play with the addition of the RPS role play system. Participants will be able to develop skills, strategize and pursue their chosen lives & careers within this exciting & vibrant environment. The addition of a RP Economy will also add to the fun as we work together to build our own unique version of the Duchy.While there is still work to do, I thought it was time to share some of the information that we are working on and ask for your comments & feedback .The Social Class Structure structure resembles that of pre-revolutionary France with a few liberties taken in order to enhance the role play experience and make it enjoyable for everyone.Of course this means Peasants, Bourgeoisie & Nobels are all welcome.
