May Day Country Dance

QH Discussions

Don't we all clean up just so nicely!!

Many thanks to everyone from the QH Co-op that helped to make our May Day Country Dance such a success.

Elisabeth, Stangbo & Una; your culinary creations were a real treat.

Myron's music was as toe-tapping as usual, just a delight to dance to that even the goats got into the action :)

I didn't have time to take many pictures but Stangbo & Una have a wonderful set on Flickr or check out Candace's post.

Thanks again, folks. You all put the fun in farming!!

Help Needed with Market Expansion

QH Discussions

A quick update ...

everyone has accepted the challenge and are busily learning & preparing their secret somethings!

We've also added Una (Custard Rolls) and Jane (Sweet Kiss Cake).

Many thanks to all of our intrepid volunteers. I know we're going to have a great opening day!

Now back I go to catch some more large chickens to roast :))

Help Needed with Market Expansion

QH Discussions

Hearty congratulations to the QH Co-op Members! Our first outlet stall is up & running. Only G&S farmers/artisans can truly appreciate all the time & effort that goes into producing one little item, especially the "secret" ones.

You were all more than up to the challenge and I think we will make an excellent first impression on those just discovering our little venture.

To visit at http://bit.ly/1TL5KGv teleport once (bringing you to the central location) and then again with the same link to get to the stall.

Thanks!!

Help Needed with Market Expansion

QH Discussions

Three weeks into our expansion and it's going really well!

Most popular items (in no particular order):

  • Mead
  • Sake
  • Great Reserve Wine
  • Cheese
  • Milk
  • Pretzels

I'm thinking of expanding with the addition of another 20 prim stall adjacent to our current one or perhaps a larger 60 prim stall if one becomes available.

I was wondering if members had any preference for what was sold. Is there anything that you're keen to produce? Tools? Thread? More food items? Other? The Co-op would purchase these wholesale and take the responsibility of selling them retail.

Help Needed with Market Expansion

QH Discussions

The Co-op is looking for help from its Culinary Wizards.

Now that we've had a chance to establish ourselves, I thought it would be interesting to try a bit of an expansion. Apparently it's just more fun living on the edge :)

I've reserved a small stall (LI=20) at the G&S Co-op Market which will be available in about two days. The main objective is to give us an opportunity to "advertise" our existence with a nice looking display and information about the Hamlet.

I have no idea if we will actually sell anything but we can always hope.

I was thinking it would be interesting to have one "special" food item from each member that was interested in participating. By special I was thinking of the Secret Recipes.

Here's a first guess at what some members can produce:

  • Tat - Large Roasted Chicken with Stuffing
  • Claire-Sophie - Cake House
  • Elisabeth - Cream Rolls
  • Stangbo - Lobster w Oysters or Pretzel

This leaves a number of Secret Recipes open for other members to try and I'd like to get as many members involved as we can.

As a start, the Co-op can probably buy up to 4 of each of these at wholesale prices (half the retail price).

If you're interested in helping out please contact me.

Thanks!

Tat

G&S Tools: Use & Care

QH Resources & Guides

There are a number of nifty G&S tools that can make everyday life a lot easier. Here's a quick look at some of their uses & care.

Any blacksmith can tell you that his/her tools (pickaxe, hammer & tongs) are an essential part of their working process. The same goes for a carpenter (axe, chisel, mallet & broom) and a butcher (butcher knife). These tools are essential and the job cannot be done without them.

Farmers will find that a sickle will make caring for crops a whole lot easier as it adds 2 points to each roll of the dice. Mine have saved me many extra meals (energy saved on extra dice rolls for caring) even though I tend to look like the grim-reaper as I run from one crop to the next ;)

Goat tenders may make use of verr shears as well as a divest knife to increase the chances of more wool and more meat.

Tools may be purchased at the Market or through a Blacksmith .

ALL tools, essential or otherwise, wear down over time and will need to be repaired. Master versions, which last longer before needing repair, can be found for most of the essential tools (pickaxe, hammer, tongs, axe, chisel, mallet).

Tools may be repaired bya Blacksmith . The repair cost is up to the individual smith.

The Co-op will also purchase worn tools (at half their original value) so if you have any laying around contact Tatiana.

Fishing Challenges

QH Challenges

It's actually a bit disconcerting, the detritus that is found in the Queen's Hamlet Pond! Fortunately the fishing is also excellent.

Now that I've gained the Bronze Award I'll have to screw up my courage and try out a Tuna Tournament. I'm expecting Elisabeth to give me lots of tips!!
