A Tudor love story in Second Life

Now open at LEA 8 is Tahiti Raes Love, Henry . Created with the assistance of Sonic Costello, Augurer Resident, Caryl Meredith, Annu Pap, Mitsuko Kytori, Abel Dreamscape, this is an interactive examination of the relationship between King Henry VIII of England and Anne Boleyn , from their courtship to her becoming his wife and Queen Consort, through to events immediately prior to her death just 1,000 days later.

An outline sketch of events would be to say that Henry was bound in childless wedlock to Catherine of Aragon when Anne caught his eye (having in earlier years taken Annes older sister, Mary, as one of his mistresses), causing him to desire her to the point of having his marriage annulled so that he might wed her. Thereafter, and unable to provide him with a son and heir, she also suffered a fall from grace, largely engineered, to suffer execution in the Tower of London.

Luxembourg 1867: exploring virtual history in Second Life

Currently featured in the Editors Picks section of the Destination Guide, The Virtual Pfaffenthal is interesting mix of role-play environment and historical project which crosses over into the real world.

The project run by the 1867 group founded by Hauptmann Weydert (Weydert), comprises 8 regions, with Pfaffenthal Vauban and Kirchberg being the most developed, although there is much evidence of construction work going on in the other regions. Kirchberg is actually the home of Fort Thngen , which has been in operation in SL since 2012, and as such may be familiar to some SL residents.

Ouch! That hurts, especially if you had one that you really liked.

I guess you could take this opportunity to have something brand new & shiny. I find that as the years go by my profile gets shorter not longer. Go figure.

Here are a few snippets:

My profile (including all my tabs) is comprehensive, professional, up to date, and a good place for me to share my interests and the projects I get up to. If Ihad to classify it, itd be a bit more like a CV (Curriculum Vitae, or rsum ), than say, a casual social media profile. I dont expect everyone to write their profile the wayI write mine, but I do wonder what peopleare thinking when they write their profiles.

Like it or not, many people will judge you by your profile well before theyrecognizethe real you.In a way, I can see value in reading profiles with shoddy, offensive, negative or threatening information its much easier for me to dismiss you as someone I may not want to get to know better, saving both of us time and energy better spent elsewhere.In fact, Ill often invest more time and energy with a newbie with a sparse or empty profile than with the type Ive described above. At the very least, theyre not repelling me away.

Of course after reading it, I immediately reviewed my own profile to see how up to date it was and what it was "saying" about me.

Like Canary, I also tend to initially judge people by their profiles. I never could understand those profiles that told me to "take a hike" right off the bat. Maybe it's a generational thing

I too hope that creators don't get discouraged. It's a shame that so much talent is potentially lost to us because of the actions of a few.

I made my decision a long time ago (back in the days of TheSims2 - was that really 10 years ago!) that I wasn't going to let thieves stop me from creating & sharing those creations. Not that it doesn't make me sick every time I come across another incident. I agree that filing a DMCA is a great way to go in SL and will have to figure out the rules of other grids as necessary.

One of the worst things is "there is so very little trust left now" and, as you say, "this has caused a lot of people, including myself, to be reluctant with making stuff public".

How do you keep a community healthy & vibrant with all the suspicion?

It's sad because I would guess that only about 5% of the actual population are to blame. The usual pattern isone or twoindividuals with a whole lot of alts.

This is the question Jacon is tackling in Theft in SL.

This case has given us (both estate managers & community members)some practical experience on working together & I think we can build from there.

Do you have any suggestions? Anything that would make you feel safer sharing your wonderful new version of the Chateau de Versailles for example?

LOL Jacon, "Karma is a bitch" is one of my favourite sayings mostly because we actually have a wonderful Sheltie named Karma and yes, she is female

On a more serious note, I agree that working together goes a long way to solving the problem. They can rip us off but now they know they'll eventually be found out.

On the bright side, this time we didn't just "swallow it" and I think we've learned a bit more aboutworking together as a communityto help alleviate these types of situations.

My heart goes out to Pamela Galli, a wonderful person & creator whoseSL income supports herself & her family. She is facing continual theft that impacts that income. I can see why she only allows AVs with payment information onto her region. I wouldseriously consider doing the same if my regions were only about the retail aspect but I really enjoy sharing the land and like to think it might inspire a brand-new AV (who doesn't yethave payment information) to get involved with the historical communities.

In other words, I like the community aspect too much to want to lock down my land anymore than I have to and I'm not about to let unscrupulous people change that.

Thank you for your insights, Mercury.

I hesitated to post the group list because I really don't want to imply that belonging to a group means you're somehow guilty.

As you say, most group members are innocent and people belong to groups for a wide variety of reasons.

I didn't get much of a chance to review the Chateau itself. I was with an administrator and concentrating on content that I could verify as mine. There was a lot of it so it took some time.

I would strongly suggest that anyone that has built the Chateau de Versaillesincluding the Hall of Mirrors go and take a look themselves.
