The Great Grape Hunt on Rocca Sorrentina - October 15-23

The Rocca Sorrentina vineyard workers have made a mess. They've dropped 10 white grape clusters and 10 red grape clusters all over the island in public places. Some of those places are inside public buildings and some outside. Each cluster is named for a different variety of Italian wine grape.

You can win prizes donated by our merchants and residents by helping us find the grapes. Here's how it works:

• If you see a grape cluster as you're strolling the island, take a copy.
• Keep all your grapes in a folder WITH YOUR NAME ON IT.
• When you've found all 20 (or when the hunt closes) give your folder to Serenek Timeless who will send you prizes. Depending on how many clusters you have here's what you win:

Grape Stomping for Prizes - Rocca Sorrentina Grape Harvest Festival

The Grape Harvest Festival is coming on Oct. 22-23, but we have been busy picking grapes and they need to be stomped so that we can make wine.  Stop by our vineyard at the top of the ramp leading up from the harbor, take off your shoes, and receive prizes for stomping.  The vats will make you stomp for at least 90 seconds (and probably more) before you'll be given a randomly chosen prize.  The white grape vat and the red grape vat give different prizes so try them both.  You can stomp multiple times and hope to get different prizes each time.  But please be courteous if others are waiting for their turn and don't hog a vat for too long.

Carnevale on Rocca Sorrentina

The residents and friends of Rocca Sorrentina celebrated Carnevale on earlier today with a costume contest and a dance. Everyone was masked (of course) and decked out in their finest and/or most clever costumes. If you want to see a full gallery of all of the costumes click here . There was so much ingenuity and glamour among the costumes it was difficult to select a winner, but when the votes were counted the best ladies' costume prize went to Tiamat Windstorm for her interpretation of a classical Greek or Roman sculpture.

The best men's costume winner was Lucerius Zeffirelli.

Following the contest the festivities moved to the Taverna plaza where there was much drink, dancing, and revelry - including a giant conga line.

Merriment at the All Hallow's Costume Dance

What a party! Myron Byron's music was delightful, and there were so many creative costumes at today's All Hallow's Costume Dance. Best of all, it was great to see so many friends plus some new faces.

I was able to take a bunch of pictures from my post by the Petite Trianon, and since the Powers-that-Be will probably only let me post four of those pictures here, I decided to put them all on PicassaWeb. My apologies for the kinda low-res camera settings and the fact that not everyone in the backgrounds of these shots rezzed fully (the miracle of avatar impostors), but at least I didn't crash. I know you'll all want to preserve these keepsake photos forever.

Decades Ball and Festival -- June 27 Fundraiser for TRC website -- Discussion and Planning

I'm very much in favor of having a fundraiser, but the June 21 timing of the DECADES event is extremely problematical for a reason that I think highlights the problem with the current Ning website being called "Royal Courts." On June 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21 Renaissance Island will be celebrating its 8th anniversary in Second Life. 8 years is a really big deal. On June 21 there will be a play production on Renaissance Island at noon and a grand ball at 6 pm. I plan to be at both of those things as do several other friends who might otherwise be interested in a DECADES fundraising event. It would be a wonderful thing if all of the Royal Courts folks would come too.

Why aren't the Renaissance Island events posted on our Ning calendar so that you could have planned your event around them? For the simple reason that there is not now, nor has there ever been a royal court on Renaissance Island. The early region administrators never felt comfortable publicizing events on this site (and even caught static from various Royal Personages in the Royal Courts group years ago for trying to do so). So the current owners and managers don't even think about the Royal Courts Ning. Yet Renaissance Island has a grand tradition of historical roleplay and educational activities -- precisely the kind of place that ought to be included in the more comprehensive website.

So this is an URGENT REQUEST that the decades event be put later in June or in early July so that we all have time to join in the Renaissance Island celebrations.

We are pleased to announce some exciting changes and additions to the 18th century shops in Rocca Sorrentina. Several of our longstanding merchants on the island have moved to larger shop spaces in the new Bay of Naples Market high above our neighboring harbor region. This has allowed expansion of other shops on Rocca Sorrentina and plus space for some new merchants. All the shops at ground level on Rocca Sorrentina itself are striving for a true 18th century look and feel.
