A 'Modern' Court?

Communty News & Events

So an alternate timeline in which the Bourbonnais or a descendant of Louis Napoleon still rule in France, or simply Paris as it really is, a second-home-of-choice for royals of many countries (royals in exile and younger siblings of ruling royals) at loose ends?

Sailing Club in Antiquity

Communty News & Events

I hope those of you who love sailing, or who think you may come to love it if you try it, will take advantage of Antiquity's sailing water. We don't have quite as much of it as we once did, but there's still enough to provide sailors with delightful times at sea - and in contrast to some of the other historically-themed sailing regions, you won't need to worry about being shot at unless you arrive during posted battle times or accept a formal challenge at other hours.

~Shopping at Rocca Sorrentina and the Bay of Naples~

Worth visiting just for the architecture - but once you've been drawn innocently into the locale, temptation becomes a danger. However, I have finally found the perfect spot for the secretary I could not resist last time a hunt drew me into Timeless Decor; weakness of will sometimes proves a boon!

"Absurd, creative and debauched: ten years later, "Second Life" is still alive "

Bloggers' Corner

Yes, it's not bad at all. More can always be said, but she's demonstrated that although sex is indeed omnipresent and often cliched (or downright tacky!), there is also far more and much of it is not only non-tacky but engaging at a deep level. SL is what we bring to it, and I think she's made that clear, thanks in no small part to her interview with you, Tatiana.

(My bed does not have a leopard bedspread! - oh - oh, that one - well, one of them does, but I don't have it rezzed...really I don't...An SL inventory is a dangerous place.)

Major Antiquity Fund Raising Event

Communty News & Events

We have received some truly heartwarming pledges from some of our sub-renters already. We still have quite a distance to go, especially in regard to the two full sims that are the heart of the estate and of course in regard to open water, but we're feeling far more optimistic than we were a month ago, when we stared in horror at the lump sum cost of buying down the whole estate.

Rulers of the World

Communty News & Events

A little hard on our poor beleaguered George III - but a delightful sociopolitical (and perhaps psychopolitical) study.

My lord and I are trying to decide where to display the gift, which deserves to be on view in drawing-rooms across the Historical sims; we agree entirely with Lady Hartfield and Prince Jacon on the matter of quality.

I greatly appreciate your excursion outside of European limitations, Sophia (and I am needing a more suitable wig for my kimono collection.)

Want Lower Tier? Now You Can Get Grandfathered Land Rates!

General Discussion

Yes, and I'll be buying down MarieGalante's tier with part of the signing bonus members of my union will be receiving on their April 30 paycheques. However, the fact that a later contract signing would have meant another few months of full tier (with a slightly smaller pay packet!) is a bit souring. It underscores exactly the question of how much regard LL has for large chunks of its client base. Of course those who can afford it are buying down now, and of course LL's real concern is for its own profit margins, but more careful attention to customer relations can pay off, too.

Want Lower Tier? Now You Can Get Grandfathered Land Rates!

General Discussion

Our own concern about this is one of equity. Those who have surpluses in real-life savings accounts should be able to do their buydowns immediately, but those who have been struggling to meet current tier will have to struggle even more to save up their lump sums. Those who must struggle hardest to cover current tier will end up paying as much as double the buy-down sum because they will be paying extra months of high tier. Therefore, the buydown will tend to benefit the well-to-do more than those who are struggling - the very people the policy supposedly is intended to help. Those who will benefit the most will tend to be those who least need the reduction.

I suppose the historical precedent of "rich get richer" is well-established, but I wish Linden Labs had framed the offer with more effective regard for those who are under real-life economic pressure.
