Anyone up for making two special chairs for the DECADES festival? - Proceeds to benefit Royal Courts

General Discussion

The second chair - ASSYRIAN. Two drawings of chairs from The British Museum...and a snippet of text from the museum:

"The discoveries which have been made in the oldest seat of monarchical government in the world, by such enterprising travellers as Sir Austin Layard, Mr. George Smith, and others who have thrown so much light upon domestic life in Nineveh, are full of interest in connection with this branch of the subject. We learn from these authorities that the furniture was ornamented with the heads of lions, bulls, and rams; tables, thrones, and couches were made of metal and wood, and probably inlaid with ivory; the earliest chair, according to Sir Austin Layard, having been made without a back, and the legs terminating in lion's feet or bull's hoofs. Some were of gold, others of silver and bronze. On the monuments of Khorsabad, representations have been discovered of chairs supported by animals, and by human figures, probably those of prisoners. In the British Museum is a bronze throne, found by Sir A. Layard amidst the ruins of Nimrod's Palace, which shews ability of high order for skilled metal work."

We are having an art exhibit as part of the DECADES festival the end of next month that includes paintings/artifacts from 24 periods . . . . Stone Age cave paintings to Post-Modern/Deconstructivism "concept art." Each period also features a chair that's typical of the era. We all sit, after all and chairs are fun in SL.

I've located and/or made chairs for all 24 periods but two: Mesopotamian and Egyptian (I have an Egyptian chair, but it is truly ugly...and the only other one I found that works in the exhibit is 24 LI)

Am attaching photo of Queen Hetepheres I chair. She was a Queen of Egypt during the 4th dynasty. If anyone would be willing to create a replica, please get in touch. We would feature it and the Mesopotamian chair as fund raiser purchases, as well as include them in the exhibit. Will attach the other image in next note.

I have come to the conclusion that my "family" of avatars are all clothes' horses. They really need to get out and develop their minds instead of spending their time collecting hair . . . and shoes . . . and etc., etc.

Cousin Trolley waves her arms wildly . . . she's good for anything from 1880-1960. And well, Sister looks ok in a toga and Sister Cousin rocks the 1940s if you need 'em.

Decades Ball and Festival -- June 27 Fundraiser for TRC website -- Discussion and Planning

Slight correction to Step's last post...

  • Lucerius Zeffirelli will be setting up one of his sailing ships and creating a display about SL's historical RP communities on its deck.

Sere relayed Lucerius' generous offer last evening in IM. I then sent Step a note to let her know ....neither Steph nor I had been in touch with Lucerius yet, so we may have jumped the gun here a bit.

And Aldo Stern is who has expressed a willingness to create a photo display about SL's historical RP communities. Location "TBD."

Sorry to have created possible confusion. My brain isn't working very well at the best of times but at 4 a.m. it's pitiful...grin.

Great idea!

The art exhibit will have a chair or other seating for every "art" period from stone age to 2015. The chairs are placed in front of BIG panels of representative artwork for a period/style. That could make for some interesting photos for people to create. But a photo booth with a choice of period props and backgrounds could be a lot of fun for people.

Sere - absolutely. Having only discovered Renaissance Island recently due to Traveler's Tales and having gone there for several in-voice events, I hope very much that Steph can find another date. I wish there were some way to create a master calendar of historical and educational activities inworld along the lines of Google Calendar to help with scheduling and I suspect it would have the additional advantage of fostering more collaborative work that crosses time periods. What binds us all together is a love of history.

Royal Courts Ning: ♥ 2015 Fundraiser ♥ August 1st

Site News & Guidelines

It would be fantastic to have the sunflower brooch or necklace or bracelet! I have a space in the Gallery for each historical sim . . . Antiquity is ready and waiting. Will send you a notecard soon as I get inworld with LM, and details.

There is large bookcase in the gallery with a brass plaque on each shelf naming the various RP sims: ROMA, ANTIQUITY, etc., etc. And books that you click on and get NC describing the sim, how to get there, links to web info, facebook pages, blogs....the content is up to the people in each historical community. The idea is to let people who come to to the Gallery take away information about each RP (or educational sim) in SL (and other locations) and either buy things that creators have donated (proceeds either all or in part to NING) or make an outright donation and receive a thank you gift.

The plan is to also have 2-way portals so people can directly TP to the various communities. That will take a little more time, since we either need a landing spot or a "brick and mortar" virtual Galleries branch at the various sims.
