HELP WANTED: Decades Fest Baristas Needed

General Discussion

Must be available for one to two hours on Saturday June 27 and be willing to cheerfully welcome visitors to the festival cafe. The idea is that baristas will RP with guests, encouraging them (by example) to PLAY. The cafe is located in the top floor of the observatory. The view of the entire grounds is spectacular.

Interested parties should contact Stephanie Mesler (here) or Freda Frostbite (inworld).

Someone Help Me Figure This Out Please....

General Discussion

I am trying to post a DEcades Festival event notice to the SL guide. It keeps getting kicked for

"Please correct the following:

  • The event appears to contain mature material, but is on a General region. Please choose an adult or moderate region. Refer to the Maturity ratings wiki page for more details."

Here is the entire content of what I am trying to post. What do you think might be tripping the maturity rating sensors. I have run into this before when posting events but have always been able to figure what might be causing the problem. This time, I have no idea. I already tried posting without mentioning RP because I thought the event guide software might be programmed to assume all RP is that kind of RP.

This is what I tried to post:

Please Come To the Piozzi Home Tonight...

Social Announcements & Introductions

I just finished writing the talk I will present (in the person of Mrs. Hester Piozzi) tonight at 5:30 PST. The topic is the life and writings of 18th century poet and satirist, Christopher Smart. I'll be sharing some of the poet's work and discussing the links between finances and insanity and insanity and creativity. I hope you will join us on Mrs. Piozzi's terrace at Rocca Sorrentina in SL. Come dressed for an 18th Century summer night and please have local voice enabled.

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

I continue to be amazed that we all keep paying what linden asks for land. I am doing it myself, so no accusation is aimed at anyone. I just keep thinking there is NO reason to keep doing this. If enough of us moved to OS and -- here is the key -- worked TOGETHER on building community there, it would be ideal.

Problem is, in OS, we all have our own worlds. Most of us have many worlds and we are not all that interested in cooperative efforts. I mean, we say we want cooperative projects, but do we really? The one thing accomplished by the land costs in sl is this-- we are forced by financial necessity to work together at least some of the time. There is a reason SL has stronger communities than any other grid-- we are forced to share. SL mainland is, in some ways, the best example of what can be done in a shared and commonly built virtual world.

I have land in sl. But it is shared land because I cannot afford a sim of my own. The result is that I work with the folks with whom I share land and we have a great time.

I have land in OS -- 30 sims in Kitely and 1 elsewhere. I am only using 9 of the 30, having shared the rest with friends and my husband. Most of the time, I am alone on my 9. Other folks are alone in their worlds. We are literally islands unto ourselves. But it does not have to be that way. How do we work toward shared projects that are truly shared? Or are we all interested in having our own fiefdoms?

Some Thoughts on Alternative Gids

General Discussion

In open sim, folks make a lot of their own clothes. Which is why Freda of Kitely looks like crap.

As for pricing-- prices on Kitely Market do not appear to me to be lower than on SL Marketplace. I have an account in Inworldz and have not noticed a big diff there either. I am on LOTS of grids where everything is free. Mostly, for opensim, I use my Kitely AV though, cuz it's easy to just hyperjump all over the place.

Decades Festival: Call for RP Community Listings in SL and Elsewhere

General Discussion

Thanks for the offer, but my regions in Kitely are, so far, incomplete. I am using 9 of my sims to create The 12 Realms, setting for a series of books I have been working on for years. (Ermengarde The Expansive, first in that line came out a couple years ago.) My partner in all my lives, including the one lived on solid ground, is using nine more to create a world of Florida fiction. A friend has plans for four of my sims. Four will be used to home a project I am not quiet ready to announce and one will be Freda's Place in Kitely.

It seems to me opensim has a lot to offer creators. Low cost and huge prim allowances are just the start. When the next generation of SL comes along, I hope it is accessible to all of us, but suspect it may not be. I bought my Kitely land as a long-term investment in virtual worlds.

Please send me the hypergrid address for your wolds in Kitely, Jacon. One way to let people know what is available in opensim is to share that info at the Decades Festival.

BTW-- anyone in opensim, please find me, Freda Frostbite, in Kitely and friend me.

Decades Festival: Call for RP Community Listings in SL and Elsewhere

General Discussion

I have 30 sims in Kitely myself. I am not in the least bothered by having to wait 30-40 seconds before TPing. I do the exploration on the Explore Worlds page and then wait for the world I want to visit to rez. The Kitely system does eliminate the possibility of just wandering the grid like I did when I first joined SL. But I donlt mind wandering the website instead.

What I miss in all of opensim is the STUFF available in SL. I keep expecting the creators and merchants to flock there in droves because they can do what they do so much cheaper than in sl. I mean, 30 sims for $35 a month is a pretty danged good deal.

Is this the 18th century RP I heard is coming to Kitely? You can find me there as well as SL. I am Freda Frostbite in both grids.
