M le Prince's posting of his charming lit de chien prompted me to post this, as I have meant to do for well over a month now. From the fantastic Wrightsman collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Dog kennel by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené, ca. 1775–80. Beechwood and pine; silk and velvet. 30-3/4 x 21-1/2 x 21-1/2 in. (78.1 x 54.6 x 54.6 cm) H. of opening: 11-3/4 in. (29.8 cm).
Signature: G. SENE (stamped on the underside of the back rail in the center)
Marks: A cipher formed by the letters M and A beneath a closed royal crown all within a circle of words reading GARDE MEUBLE DE LA REINE (branded). Mark of the Garde Meuble de la Reine Marie-Antoinette.
Provenance: Château de Versailles, Versailles, France (Marie Antoinette); Marie Antoinette, Queen of France ; [ Koenigsberg, New York ]; Richard Peñard y Fernandez (until 1960).

That is one beautiful bed. Mops was definitely onepriviledgedpetto say the least!!! It goes to show that cherished pets among the aristocrats and rich had it made, including fancy beds. At Neiman Marcus there is a 1500.00 us funds,cat bed!!!! Can you imagine what people from 100 years in the future will say about us.
