18th Century Roleplay
Although Hugo Dieter was born in the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (modern day Germany), he considers himself an Englishman. His family left the Duchy when he was a child and settled in Cornwall, England. His family owns tin mines and make a fine living at it. Hugo was never quite content in England and wished to see the world being a man of a young age. He is well traveled and educated in the activites of many men of his era.

So far, he has resisted various attempts by his family to force him to return to Cornwall and engage in the family business. In an effort to secure his financial independance from his family, Hugo has gone into business for himself. He's made a small investment using some of his personal wealth and is in shipping. Specifically, Hugo Dieter deals in tea and indigo for outward appearances but his main business is in the opium trade.

His small business doesn't attract much attention from those in seats of power. He prefers it that way and more or less manages to line the proper pockets with enough coin to keep their eyes blind to his endeavours. Not a greedy man by any means, Hugo has had to deal with certain demands made by those who control the harbors so that his ships may pass through unscathed. This makes Hugo uncomfortable as being forced to be obliged to any man is something he finds completely distasteful, especially in the city of Venezia.

A bit of help back and forth to further one's own ends is one thing, but anything that interferes with his business is quite another.
