Versailles - A/W 2011

As some of you know, in real life I work in fashion - and imagine my joy when my twin (but by no means mutually exclusive) loves of Versailles and excruciatingly expensive frocks collided at New York Fashion Week! Hopefully Versailles is a trend for A/W 2011??

Thakoon's collection was inspired by rococo silhouettes and also photography of African tribes - the checkered fabric has a Masaai feel, but the silhouette here is pure paniered caraco.

Jason Wu's show was actually inspired by Robert Polidori's documenting of the restoration of Versailles - and is definitely his best collection to date.

I don't usually regret not attending NYC fashion week - but this is definitely an exception! Hopefully it'll carry over to Europe!

I'm only hoping it carries through to the European collections! I'd love a few frills and furbelows for Fall!

I don't even want to THINK about that exchange rate! Converting from Livres to Sou was scary enough!

It's funny, besides the embroidery, a lot of Wu's things remind me of vintage YSL ... late 60's through the 70's. In a good way. And then the embroidery is beautiful. He always has a nice clean line; in case anyone wants to know, his day dresses generally range from USD1500-3000, but I think most are clustered around $2200 or so (checks Neiman Marcus) - yep.

Thanks for sharing this with us! - Hee and see, we colonials can do something decent once in a while! ;^)

an insight into contemporary fashion is always refreshing esspecially when it comes from new york...many had given up on that city hehe

wu's collection was certainly one of my favourites, I admit I have a preference for black and white!

the rococo and its fashion is one of the most inspiring epoches for modern designers: Above all it was unique and in fact completely different from other periods (I personally do not even find it logical to see it as a result of the baroque age, at least not the architecture and fine arts).
