Mesh & 64m Prims Are Here!!

Hello Everyone

I'm very excited that Mesh & 64m Prims which started rolling out yesterday should be grid wide today!!

I've been waiting impatiently for those larger prims and have put off some of my building projects in anticipation. I always found wrestling with the old mega prims to be an exercise in frustration - trying to piece them together to save prims and yet follow a realistic design - ugh.

Now I can get back to the Petit Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet. Woohoo!!

As far as mesh goes, I think I will wait a bit before jumping in. I've made mesh objects before for TheSims2 and so I know that it's not trivial. I would also like to see how the prim cost assigned to a mesh works out.

So what about you? What are your plans with these new building tools?

Tat, I love you for two reasons:

- You are continuing witht he petit trianon: YAAAAAAAY.

- You made objects for the sims 2? That's so COOL!

About mesh, we'll see what it will bring to us. I heard it will be the most revolutionary with hair and architecture, and I'm especially interested in what it will do with virtual architecture. Though, mesh doesn't allways mean lower prim count!

Awww ... thanks!!

Mega prims always scared me, especially after the debacle where LL went and deleted a bunch of them out of the blue. I used them sparingly to save on prims which was ok for smaller builds. I just couldn't stand the thought of piecing together the Petit Trianon and then waking up one day to find it had disappeared.

My hat is off to the builders of Versailles who keep tackling a much larger build and are willing to revise it when necessary.

I had a lot of fun building for TheSims2 and it taught me a lot about 3D building including the factthat mesh has a reallybig learning curve - lol.

Yoohoo!

Merci Tatiana for that wonderful compliment! We are constantly trying to improve Versailles, and save on prims :P

As a monumental palace, it is incredibly difficult to give it justice within the limitations of Second Life, though we are always up for a challange ;)

Already, with the new fabulously large prims, we have replaced ALL the floors at Versailles, which has saved us quite a few prims lol. We also plan to use these new larger prims anywhere we can to save as much prims as possible because, as you may have noticed, we are rather lacking in furniture ;)

a great new chance...and JUST maybe the path that will lead out of sl's decline - in any case the right direction.

now we only need 5k prims plus. any news about that? ;) as it seems LL is now trying to keep up with the rival providers

A project like Versailles is an example where it would be most beneficial to be able to have more than 15k prims per region.

I guess if region crossings were "transparent" i.e. you didn't notice them at all, you could always shuffle the palace so that it spanned two regions. Then all you would have to worry about was the cost of two regions - sigh.

Definitely a step in the right direction, though I'm actually one of those people that don't consider SL to actually be in decline.

I also have high hopes for Rod Humble as the CEO. He's doing a lot of good stuff with more to come.

Well we do have 2 sims, due to how large the chateau actually is, we weren't able to fit it all on one sim. And even then, we are struggling with prims :P And yes, sim borders are always a nuisance

But, we've had a look at some fabulous Louis XV style chairs made with mesh, and they are absolutely fabulous - and only 3 prims ;)

Thanks for the information. I didn't know the chateau was already spread over 2 regions. Makes sense :)

Wow - I spent yesterday using the new 64m prim size limit.

I knew that it was going to make a difference in building but I never dreamed it would make SO MUCH of a difference! No more compromising to save prims; what a relief!!!
