Warning!! Given Rodvik's recent departure from Second Life, the title of this post might imply some melodramatic musings when it's actually a response to Strawberry Singh's latest Monday Meme, Dance in Second Life Challenge .

And though this post isn't melodramatic it is a bit nostalgic. As I wrote in Adventures w Flat Rod: Rod Humble Crept into My Life ,it was taken in the Ballroom of Languedoc Coeur.

I LOVED that ballroom and if memory serves me correctly it was the first place that I ever danced in Second Life (SL).

When the decision was made to overhaul Languedoc Coeur, I hauled Flat Rod there for one final dance. Though the ballroom was still standing the region was empty; more ghost-town then anything I've ever experienced in SL before or since. I planted Rod in the middle of the huge, marble floor and danced the minuet one last time. He was stoic (as only a cardboard cut-out can be) while I was a bit teary. He didn't start to sweat until I dragged him next door to the Languedoc Coeur Chapel , though that could have just been condensation collection on his rigid, board brow.

I'm glad I captured this moment and thought it was perfect for this dancing challenge. In response to the questions:

hehe, I don't try out a lot of dances either, If its not the waltz, its the minuet, or my all time and every purpose 2 step. You use to do ballet and Jazz? Woo!

Hey Delos! I have to agree that the "every purpose 2 step" is a dance for all seasons :))

Until I took this challenge, I hadn't realized how much dancing was a part of our SL culture. The only dance animation that I actually own is the Dancing Around the Christmas Tree and I have to say that one is just too much fun when you get everyone going on it.

Yes, I'm aRL dancer. Apparently once you've been a dancer you never really stop being one even if you haven't actually danced in a while (details, details). I swapped ballet for Pilates but have every intention of returning "someday".

I am an SL dance addict and have invested more lindens in dance anims than makes any sense for someone who is not an SL club manager or DJ! I cannot resist. Perhaps it is wish fulfillment. I love dancing in RL but in my youth did not have the stamina or focus (or, I must admit, talent) to make a career of it. In SL I look so graceful - not to mention inexhaustible - and so do my partners.

In RL, meanwhile, I still take the odd belly dance class (much more forgiving of my figure than the ballet I loved as a child!), and of course spend as much time on the floor as my energy will allow whenever I find myself at a community dance event.

Hi Tiamat!

As I said, once a dancer always a dancer. I tried belly dancing once & it's really hard! Of course it looks deceptively easy when done by good dancers. Certainly a great way to enjoy exercising.

I don't know what it is about dancing in SL but it really can be a lot of fun. Like you say, you an look so graceful (or silly depending on the dance) and you are inexhaustible. It's all good!
