Duché de Coeur Role-Play Part One: The Traveler It was the deepest night, crisp and cold, as he rode through the Duchy. He rode slowly, his horse spent from the long journey. He had heard tell of a tavern in Languedoc and as he crossed the border from Provence he followed the back road behind the canal as instructed. All was quiet, almost eerily so, as he made his way down to the beach and finally saw the dim light of the tavern in the hollow. If he didn't know better he would think the world deserted. As he approached, his horse picked up her gait sensing a journey's end. The tavern light's warmth seemed the only harbor of hope left. He arrived and tied his weary horse near the water trough and entered the Tavern. At this late hour he hardly expected anyone there but to his surprise a lovely woman stood behind the bar as though she were waiting for him."Good evening Monsieur" She smiled."Good evening Madamoiselle" He said"What can I get you this evening?" She said, with a knowing smile."I am looking for a gentleman by the name of M. Muircastle do you know him?" He said."Why I think I do, very well in fact", She replied with a grin."Oh wonderful!" He said. Do you know where I can find him, it's extremely important.""You are looking at "him" she replied, laughing."You???" "I am sorry Madamoiselle, I expected someone more...""Male? Experienced? Older?" She laughed."Yes..." He said, abashed."I am Maria Muircastle and I believe you have something for me?" She asked."I do, provided you have what I seek . It has been a long journey. " He said."I have but a part of what you need for your quest but many others are seeking too. My help will give you a start on what you seek and perhaps an advantage." She said."It had better be a significant advantage for the price you ask..". He said."Oh it is!. It is the first clue and well worth the payment." She smirked."Very well madamoiselle", he said as he handed her a bag of gold. "If it isn't, I will come back and perhaps get my money's worth from you." He suggested."Ah Sire, If it is...perhaps I will give it. " She smiled as she passed the scroll to him."How came you by this lass?" he asked."I would rather not speak of it sire; would you like a drink?" She replied, changing the subject."Yes, your best ale". He said as he broke the seal on the scroll... ((See the poem in the first post))

The Queen's Trumeau Part Two: Frustrated and exhausted the Traveler returned to the Languedoc Inn. He rented a room and for three days he lingered there, talking to anyone who would speak with him and chatting with Madamoiselle Maria in hopes of finding out what to do next. Finally his restlessness overcame his fatique and he ventured out on foot for a walk thru the countryside. The day was crisp but sunny, and he could feel the sun's warmth through his heavy cloak. The snow was almost gone and hints of Spring were evident in the new fresh grasses fighting their way to life in the muddy ground. The Duchy was not yet in bloom but he could imagine how lovely it would be in a few weeks. As he ventured up the road toward Poitou, he passed an elegant stone manor just as it's occupant prepared to ride past the gate. The gentleman wore a tricorn hat, matching cloak and was of medium stature with a good natured face and jolly smile."Bonjour! The horseman said. " I do not believe I have seen you before in the Duch de Coeur. I am Trasgo Beaumont, Master Artist de Coeur.""A great pleasure to meet you sir, I believe I was just in your studio in Languedoc the other day. Your art is magnificant! " said the Traveler."OH Merci! Anyone who likes my art is indeed a friend." said Trasgo with a big smile. "What brings you to our fine Duchy?""I seek the Queen's Trumeau; have you heard of the legend? " said the Traveler."Have I heard of it? hahahahaha, that is so funny. " Said Trasgo, and he laughed so hard he almost fell off his horse. After helping Trasgo back up on his saddle the Traveler gave him a puzzled look. Trasgo was still giggling hysterically. "What did I say that is so funny?" he said not sure whether to be insulted or not."Oh! I am so very sorry Monsieur, I mean no offense. It's just that you are not the first and I am sure not the last fool to seek the Queen's Trumeau here. " Said Trasgo. "It has become somewhat of a local joke. Never has anything been found!. ""Well, Monsieur Beaumont, I assure you that I have indeed found part of what I seek. " Said the Traveler, not at all amused. At this , Trasgo went into a fresh fit of giggles this time so loud he spooked his horse and nearly fell off. "Oh yes, I am sure you did Monsieur, perhaps a Magic Rock or a Genie's bottle?" Hahahahaha." Laughed Trasgo, tears of laughter threatening to appear any moment.""No Sir, I have found parts of the Queen's Trumeau." Said the Traveler, "And I suspect you know full well I did." He added.Trasgo's smile slowly faded as the import of the Traveler's words penetrated his soul. "Really sir, and why might that be? " he said soberly, a strange coldness in his eyes."Why because it was in your studio that I found one of the clues to the quest, right on your desk..." replied the Traveler. "so enough of the charade my friend; what do you know?"For a moment Trasgo studied the Traveler as though to look into his soul then he said. "It seems you are not the fool I thought. Meet me tomorrow at noon in the Tavern where it all started...I will set you on your way again." Then before the Traveler could reply or even react. Trasgo then turned his horse and galloped away.
