Nice! Thanks to Stangbo & Una for these great shots
Very true, Leena!
I actually wrote quite a bit about friends in SL but it didn't make the cut. Fortunately she did make friends of her own andrecounted that
Too funny about the bedspread, Tiamat!
What's that saying "what happens in inventory - stays in inventory" or something like that
Absurde, cratif et dbauch : dix ans aprs, Second Life est toujours bien vivant
I have not failed on a desert island, but on Second Life . Like me, some haggard and clumsy beginners landed on this strange beach to discover what remains of this game that occupied the headlines there about ten years. I expected to find , a decade later, a deserted world, aging technology and a few cobwebs in the corners. It was exactly the opposite.
** Translated from the original French by Google **
I was interviewed for this article and didn't really know what to expect. It didn't help that the journalist, Morgane Tual, just happened to contact me on April 1st. I had already received an invitation to a new "Marquis de Sade" roleplay that morning and was on the lookout for more April Fool's fun so when she said she was from Le Monde I took it with a grain of salt.
I asked her to send me her questions via email which gave me more time to think before responding. She was probably surprised at my essay type answers but I wanted to emphasize the side of Second Life that we of the Historical Communities often explore (creative, historical, educational, fun, friends etc.) in the hope that some flavour of that would filter through.
I'm glad that she actually took the time to explore Second Life herself and the result is a much more balance piece than you usually find.
Take a look and see what you think. It's in French but the translations (via either Google or Bing) though a bit clunky, aren't all that bad.
ETA: Here's more on my take on the interview "Absurd, creative & debauched"; Guess Which One I Am!
Wishing you all the best in your fund raising efforts, Jacon. I'm a firm believer in people contributing financially towards the activities they enjoy in SL and by the look of your list you've already had a lot of support.
I assume that you are paying off individual regions as you acquire the funds to do so?
I've followed a number of strategies that are being used for the buy-ins, from business loans to short-term use of zero-interest credit cards. The is the first "go fund me" that I've seen
I'm also wondering about your future plans for rental rates especially since you mention "Our goal was to offer land at cost." Perhaps now is the time to add a bit more of a buffer to your rates? I know that I won't be dropping my rental rates even after the six month pay-off period is over. Essentially this allows me to retain the land I currently own and perhaps have more "value added" in terms of events & activities etc. Time will tell!
Hey! Where's the purple
Love them all. Excellent blend of flexi & mesh!
Hello Everyone!
Another busy, busy week for the Queen's Hamlet Co-op . Besides taking care of our crops & livestock, we've continued to expand our activities in blacksmithing, carpentry and textiles. As it turns out, chopping down trees can actually be quite therapeutic.
Congratulations go out to Hatsuka , who was the first person to complete our BLACKSMITH APPRENTICE program. She'll soon be working on some farming tools that will make all of our lives much easier. She also provided a brand new Blacksmith Starter Tool Set so there's a spot open for another apprentice.
The Carpenter's Shop is now open and has been stocked with some essential materials. Many thanks to Elisabeth for donating this set! I'll be writing up Carpentry Basics soon but in the meantime please feel free to contact me if you need help getting started.
Yes, you do have to clean up after yourself!! Honestly, the sawdust & sweeping with the broom are just too much fun.
If you're looking for an activity that's a little cleaner, a new Textile section has been set up in the Market .
Earn some coins by spinning raw wool into yarn as the Co-op will pay 40c for each finished spool of thread.
You may also want to try your hand at making a tapestry on the loom. Sets of wool in Basic & Pastel colours are available for purchase as are individual colours from the goats raised in the Hamlet.
As I mentioned last week, we now have a limited supply of Rence & Ka-la-na. Rence Flour and Ka-la-na in bowls are available just outside of the Office.
This is also a great place to buy individual portions of ingredients. If you're looking to buy in more volume, check out the Market . As you can see, the Seafood section is really coming along nicely as are the Gourmet Meals .
And on a rather sad note, Phillipe our purebred black & white goat has reached the end of his days. I was actually standing beside him when he changed from black & white to all black
His family lives on as documented in our QH Book of Goats. I guess now might be an insensitive time to mention that our Gourmet Meals will soon contain goat meat.
Those are the highlights for this week!
Comments & questions are always welcome.
