Site News: HELP NEEDED with Site Cleanup!

Site News & Guidelines

Hello Everyone

We're finally making a move!! See Site News: Looks Like We'll be Moving! for details.

As the monthly cost of this new community hosting service will largely be dependent on the amount of data we want to move/maintain we've got some cleaning up to do. According to NING stats we're currently using approximately 20GB of data and it would be great if we could reduce that by getting rid of "stale" information.

Site cleanup is always a big job that is fraught with peril.

I would ask all members to look at the information they currently have posted, decide if it's still relevant and consider deleting anything that is wildly outdated. Here are some suggestions:

Merchants: Please remove your old advertisements. Anything more than a year of two old should probably go.

Group Owners: Over time we have amassed anumber of Groups that have been set up but are not currently being used. If you are the Creator or Administrator of such a group please consider removing it. You can find more information about Group Deletionsat Manage Your Group . If you have trouble with the removal process you can contact me to do the deed.

I'll also be looking at deleting groups where the founders are no longer active on the site and/or membership is low.

Duplicate Accounts: Now is a good time to remove any duplicates you don't want any longer. Please see Leave a Ning Network for instructions. Removing your content is a personal decision but you may want to leave your contributions on the site. You do NOT have to remove your content.

Stale Accounts: If a member hasn't logged on in ages their accounts will be removed. If you are aware of members that are no longer involved with Royal Courts but have not removed their memberships, you can contact me.

Any questions? Just give me a shout! Thanks!!

Tat

Site News: Looks Like We'll be Moving!

Site News & Guidelines

Hello Everyone

Some interesting developments on the NING front:

First - they've more than doubled our subscription fees!! We're now looking at $59 monthly or $588 Annual. See Notice of Upcoming Price Changes to Ning 2.0 Networks

Second - the company that ran NING (Glam Media/Mode) shut down suddenly and NING has been taken over. See Exciting News About Ning + Cyndx LLC

I had a feeling that something like this was coming so instead of doing an annual renewal when the subscription came due in July we've switched to monthly payments instead.

We've also held off on the annual fundraising drive but thanks to ongoing fundraising (Decades take a bow!!) during the year we're ok financially for the next few months .

Our data was archived back in May (excluding photos & videos) and we'll look at doing another backup soon. Our seven years of history is therefore relatively safe.

It certainly seems that now is the time to make a move off of NING. I've been investigating Jamroom for a while now and it continues to look like a good fit. I intend to start a more in-depth study, including a free trial soon.

The monthly cost of this new community hosting service will largely be dependent on the amount of data we want to move/maintain. According to NING stats we're currently using approximately 20GB of data. A cleanup of stale information should go a ways towards getting our monthly costs down so I'll be launching some housekeeping initiatives that the general membership can help with.

Stay tuned for exciting new developments! Questions/comments, give me a shout!

Tat

A Brief History of Baking

History

403_discussions.jpg

In light of all the baking we've been doing recently in the Queen's Hamlet, I found this article most interesting. I'll leave a little taste here and you can then sample the rest. It starts in the Middle Ages and goes to the 19th century ...

18th century

Cake making soars in popularity, but the industrial revolution from 1760 sees a return to more stodgy baked goods.

This was when cake making really took off, says Dr Pennell.

The Art of Cookery, written by Hannah Glasse and published in 1747, contained a catalogue of cake recipes.

Integral to this was the development of the semi-closed oven. The development of baking is as much to do with technology as it is taste.

Fast-forward to the industrial revolution and Britain sees a return to heavy baking, where the working class eats bread and jam, says Prof Walter.

But at Easter, Christmas and other seasonal occasions, a richer diet would be available to even the poorer members of society.

Merchants and shopkeepers can afford ovens, and to bake.

QH Co-op: The News ~ May 9, 2016

QH News

Hello Everyone!

Seems time is just flying by with lots of activity leaving little time to write.

389_discussions.png

We officially welcomed spring with our May Day Country Dance. Many thanks to everyone that helped to make it a great success!

390_discussions.png?width=750

The Adopt-A-Goat program is well & truly launched now that everyone who was interested has been provided with at least one breeding pair. We'll be switching over to Trade-A-Goat where goats from all our Hamlet breeders can be exchanged. Please post any trades (or free to a good home) in the link provided above.

391_discussions.png?width=750

A new Butchery has been added (just around from the Kitchen door) where you can turn your meat (goat or chicken) into sausages etc.

392_discussions.png

We can also Study Secret Knowledge at the desk in the Office. Papyrus & Candles can be purchased there as well. I'm trying out the Large Roasted Vulo with Stuffing. A complicated but satisfying recipe!

The Market is growing at a nice pace with both large stalls now rented and new items arriving daily

Those are the highlights!

Comments & questions are always welcome.
