Welcome to the Royal Courts of Second Life!!

Jump right in and start exploring!! A good place to begin is with Social Announcements & Introductions . Don't be shy, tell us a bit about yourself (real, role play character or a bit of both).

For site administration issues please contact Tatiana . For general help you can post questions in this Getting Started category of the forum and someone may be able to lend you a hand. Finally, there's the NING Help that can also be accessed from the bottom of the page.

Keeping the villians of Spamalot at bay.
In the first line of defense against the spammers of the world, membership to this site must be manually approved by the site administrator. Only individuals with Second Life accounts will be accepted. Please note that the manual approval process may take a bit of time depending on the availability of the administrator.

As the second line of defense, it is recommended that each member set their privacy levels so that all blog & profile comments must be approved before they are posted. You will find the Settings option in the first box in the right hand column. From there, select the Privacy sub-option. For the two questions " When someone adds a comment on my blog ... " and "When someone adds a comment on my profile ... " select "Wait for my approval".

Events
One of the most exciting features of this social network is the ability to announce upcoming events. This section is open to all members and is a wonderful way to build our community by fostering connections between the various SL courts. A good rule of thumb is to post events up to a month in advance.

Forum & Categories
You will see that the forum is divided up into various categories. Some of the categories, like General Discussion, are old standards. Other categories, like Court News, Rules & Etiquette, may prove to be popular. They may also prove to duds ) Take a look and see what you think. Suggestions regarding new categories are always welcome. What do you think the community would be interested in discussing?

Besides being site administrator here, I'm the proprietress of Provence Coeur Est where you will find my Tea Room, The Queen's Hamlet & Le Petit Trianon. Merchants are asked to limit their Marketplace discussions to their own products.

IMAGES & VIDEOS

Images are limited to 4 per day and are all approved by site moderators.  Please be patient with the manual approval process.

If you have more than a dozen pictures of the same theme or event, you are encouraged to take those photos and make a video with them that you can post here via YouTube.  This is a wonderful way to showcase your collection of pictures without limitations.

Images are all converted to jpeg files on upload.

Images should be no larger than 1024x1024 and are regularly converted to fit that standard.

Videos links are currently limited to YouTube.  Video sourcing may be expanded in the future.

Advertising is not permitted in either images or videos.

BLOG POSTS & FORUM DISCUSSIONS

Blogs are used for stories, dairies (musings), informative articles etc. In Character (IC) journals are most appropriate as are articles related to our historical timeframe.  Please categorize your blog post to help people find them.

Forums are used for everything else; they often invite discussion and are categorized to make it easier to find specific subjects in the wealth of communication. 

When in doubt, use the Forums and for the sake of better communication please don't use both if you can't decide.

Posting long excerpts of written material that is copied from other people's books and articles is not allowed.  Please post a brief "teaser" text and/or image with a link to the source material.

Advertising is not permitted in either blog posts or forum discussions.

EVENTS

An Event may be posted for a maximum period of 24 hours:
Events such as Exhibitions which will be open over a period of weeks or months should only announce the event opening.  Events which extend over a period of less than 8 days may choose to use the Recurring feature.

Extended events may also make use of the Community News, Rules & Etiquette Category of the Discussion Forum.

An Event may be recurring:
Events with a frequency of Daily must not span a period of more than 7 days.

An Individual or Group is limited to a maximum of two Events per day:
Please try to combine events for the day & group whenever possible.

Advertisements for commercial products or services are not allowed in Events.
This includes new store openings.

WELCOME ~ BIENVENUE

LHVW is a friendly community where everyone is treated with courtesy and respect.  It is a Drama Free Zone where you can connect with friends & Historical Communities from across the Metaverse.  It is not the place to work out your personal issues with other individuals or groups and we will remove people who harass others.

LHVW is a place to have fun sharing your events, products, stories, experiences, and knowledge with other History Lovers.

Site content must be SFW (Safe/Suitable for Work).

LHVW pays for hosting on a sliding scale according to disk space.  In order to keep these site costs reasonable, Media Space is limited as follows; Regular members 100MB, Supporters 200MB, Sponsors 500MB.  To help keep our costs down, please remove stale information, especially images, on a regular basis.

Site News: PREPARING for the Move

Hello Everyone

It's time for every member to start preparing for our site move!

In addition to cleaning up  there are a few other things you might want to do. While the majority of the site content will be transferred over there are a few things that will be left behind.

They include:

• Private Messages
• Friend Lists
• Profile Information (the text you've written about yourself)
• Gifts

If you have something important in your Private Messages you should save a local copy.

You may want to record your list of friends to make it easier to "follow" them on the new site. OTOH you may just want to start out fresh

If you spent ages coming up with a pithy profile save a copy so you can transfer it over. I think I'll take a few screenshots of mine just for old-times sake.

Perhaps you'd also like to take a screenshot of your Gifts as well.
