How real is Second Life to you?

General Discussion

Isn't it cool how you expect to stay for a couple of hours and end up spending years doing something!I think that you're going to find drama wherever you find a group of people. SL just might emphasize it a bit more because of the "disinibition" people using the internet feel. On the other hand, I just read an article that suggests that internet groups can actually help people to develop better social skills making them all around happier individuals. That seems like a pretty real accomplishment!

How real is Second Life to you?

General Discussion

I know that the line between fantasy & reality may be a tad blurry for me but here's the thing; I really like some of the fantasy aspects of sl! As Seamus says, that second slice of pie - no problem. I can dig in the garden all day in a ballgown and not get dirty, I don't have to dust the furniture, I can fly and best of all I can build replicas of historical buildings, learning about them as I go! I mean, how cool is that?Jimpsky's point about motor neurons is an interesting one. And speaking of the brain, I often dream that I'm building or wandering through a home that I have been working on in sl. It's funny how the virtual crossing over into dreams makes it more "real" in my perception. Anyone else out there dreaming there sl experiences?"When I were a wee newbie I accidentally purchased a no trans ladies dress for $1600L, (I wear a tiny dog avatar....Male!!), don't try tell SL's a game." How real is Second Life to you?

General Discussion

Hello EveryoneI always find it fascinating to see how every individual approaches sl. Some people see it strictly as a game, others as a means to socialize, others as a venue to create and on it goes. The uses are as varied as the people themselves. For me, the line between rl and sl is very thin indeed. Some of my sl friends are as close to me as my rl ones. In fact, I really don't distinguish between the two. The "work" I do in sl is as rewarding as what I do in rl. Again, I don't really distinguish.I would be interested to see how you perceive this virtual world. A game to play? A business to grow? Is it very real to you? What do you think?

Petit Trianon - The Billard Room

Art & Architecture

Petit Trianon Billard Room For a while now I have been working on the Billard Room, located on the ground floor of the Petit Trianon. In rl this room has recently been restored with plain white boiserie. I decided to be a bit more elaborate in sl and took my inspiration from "la salle des jeux de la reine Marie Antoinette" (Marie Antoinette's games room) in the Chateau de Compigne. I used details from the wallpaper and boiserie which abounds with cherubs and flowers on a white background. Read more ...

Petit Trianon as Blogged at Vain Inc.

Art & Architecture

Robe a l'Anglais (English Dress) by Gaia Laval Gaia Laval in a "Robe a l'Anglais" at the Petit Trianon. I was delighted to discover that Gaia Laval mentioned my work in her blog Robe a l'Anglais (English Dress) over at Vain Inc. It's so exciting to see the Petit Trianon and the Queen's Hamlet through someone else's eyes. And am I ever glad that I took the time to texture the underside of that gueridon nicely :))
Thanks Gaia!!

Getting Started

Site News & Guidelines

Welcome to the Royal Courts of Second Life!!

Jump right in and start exploring!! A good place to begin is with Social Announcements & Introductions . Don't be shy, tell us a bit about yourself (real, role play character or a bit of both).

For site administration issues please contact Tatiana . For general help you can post questions in this Getting Started category of the forum and someone may be able to lend you a hand. Finally, there's the NING Help that can also be accessed from the bottom of the page.

Keeping the villians of Spamalot at bay.
In the first line of defense against the spammers of the world, membership to this site must be manually approved by the site administrator. Only individuals with Second Life accounts will be accepted. Please note that the manual approval process may take a bit of time depending on the availability of the administrator.

As the second line of defense, it is recommended that each member set their privacy levels so that all blog & profile comments must be approved before they are posted. You will find the Settings option in the first box in the right hand column. From there, select the Privacy sub-option. For the two questions " When someone adds a comment on my blog ... " and "When someone adds a comment on my profile ... " select "Wait for my approval".

Events
One of the most exciting features of this social network is the ability to announce upcoming events. This section is open to all members and is a wonderful way to build our community by fostering connections between the various SL courts. A good rule of thumb is to post events up to a month in advance.

See Event Posting Rules for details, examples & exceptions.

Forum & Categories
You will see that the forum is divided up into various categories. Some of the categories, like General Discussion, are old standards. Other categories, like Court News, Rules & Etiquette, may prove to be popular. They may also prove to duds :)) Take a look and see what you think. Suggestions regarding new categories are always welcome. What do you think the community would be interested in discussing?

Also see Forum Discussions vs Blogs: Guidelines

Have fun!!
Sharing your interests with others in our community should be a rewarding experience. May your Royal Courts of Second Life adventure be a happy one!!
