Site News & Guidelines

Thanks for this news, and good luck in the move. My question is with regard to blogs. Will they be obliterated with the move? And all the photos that we have uploaded? Will they be removed as well? Looking forward to your reply.

Introduction:

Social Announcements & Introductions

Gentilissimo Signore, Lord Haven: welcome to Ning and Mont Saint-Bruno. It pains me to know that my lord lost mamma and pap. I do hope my lord finds a welcome home also at Ning.If my lord comes to Venezia I am glad to find a gondolier for travel through the city. I am already an apprentice gondolier and my friends say I do a good job (but my master does not say this). Even if my lord likes someone bigger to paddle the gondola, it is well. Again, good wishes and welcome.

Regata a Venezia - Some talking points

Social Announcements & Introductions

Yesterday morning, our fair city woke up to find that during the night the tide had risen more then usual, and has flooded most of the city. Venetians are used to such an event, but damage has occured in various parts of the city. With this in mind, and concerned with the comfort and well being of all our visitors, the Council decided to postpone the Regatta with the boat and gondola races that were planned for Friday 25 June. We will wait a couple of weeks for the waters to go down.An anouncement will be sent out as soon as it is considered safe for the event to take place.Nimue Brezoianu and Fiorino PeraGame Managers for Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia

Regata a Venezia - Some talking points

Social Announcements & Introductions

There are gondolas at the Fish Market beside the Rialto bridge. All one need do is touch the pole and the rope releases, then one can step on to the gondola. As if by magic a long paddle or oar is given and one may start to row the gondola ((by using the arrow keys)). If one is attentive, one will hear ((see in green typeface)) instructions for paddling the gondola.

My friend Luigi is very brave (oh! they call him "Louis Charles" in other countries, but they make it sound like Lui-Sciallo, and that reminds me of Lo Squallo, which one would not like to find in the canal). Luigi comes to practice and today on his name's day, he took me for a ride down the grand canal. I was so proud of my friend! I think he will be a champion in the Regatta.Luigi did a champion job of steering the gondola, and it was hard because he wore heavy coats like they wear in the France - but at the Regatta there will be light tunics for all who are contestants. I will help my friend Luigi to get a bright color!

So no one needs to fear: if we boys can do this, the adults will find it easyand the grandmothers and grandfathers can sit in the boat during the races too, like I did for Luigi. It is for everyone.

Regata a Venezia - Some talking points

Social Announcements & Introductions

Three weeks ago we announced the Regatta at the Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia - the event scheduled for Friday, 25 June next, at 11:00 am SLT.

Do you need practice rowing a gondola? Well many people from the courts have been asking whether they can practice paddling a gondola in the Grand Canal. The answer is a resounding YESSSSS!!!

When you visit Serenissima Repubblica Venezia, you will find gondolas near the Rialto Bridge, directly in front of the fish marker. There are several other gondolas tied up in strategic places along the grand canal. If you want to practice racing a gondola or to simply get a feel for the long paddle, just click "sit" on the gondola, jump on in the Gondolier's place, take the paddle that will be offered to you - and take to the water.

Some instructions will come to you in soft green typeface they are not complicated, but it is good to read them. Every Venetian learns how to handle a craft, wether aristocrat or "popolano". Yet, I am told that few foreign aristocrats know how to handle boats or gondolas. I do not know, but if this is true for you, do do not be afraid. Try it.

It is Fun - It is Easy well no, not THAT easy... but it is still fun. Practice anytime you like.

Oh, and by the way, the Regatta is next Friday, remember? What do yo mean you forgot!

Forza, Venezia!!!
