Site Cleanup

Site News & Guidelines

Being an estate owner as well, and discussing this issue with you over the past few weeks, you have proven to be most candid and honest. I truly understand where your coming from. It is a difficult place to be in. That said, these actions are the result of a few people who are dishonest and try to take advantage of the site and your hospitality in allowing us this wonderful platform. Antiquity and my self, thank you for taking these steps. You have our complete support and we will continue working with you to make the site and our estates better and safer for our residents and creators.

Thank you Tatiana, for stepping up with this and helping us build a stronger community. In my opinion, Alts can server a purpose. If used in a non threatening manner, not for disrupting roleplay or theft, and to enhance rp or facilitate building, are ok. The problem are the few thieves and lairs that utilize them to cause hurt or steal someones hard work.

I hate to say it, but we will never be able to put a stop to copyboting. But we can still fight it. The actions you have taken today are not pleasant, and hard to do, so I thank you for taking a strong stand.

Antiquity and I look forward to working with you more and stand ready to help in any way we can.

Thank you for all your had work on this Tatiana and offering the Royal Courts as a safe place for all of us to connect with each other.

Second Life CEO Ebbe Altberg speaks about their VR project, ‘Sansar’

Bloggers' Corner

That will be great..the notecard system and word processing do need lots of work and would be great if we could incoorperate in some with with google documents or something.

On Oculus, in my humble opinion, it will be a revolution for Virtual Worlds. When Facebook bought Oculus, and Zuckerberg gave his vision for virtual reality, live events, visiting doctors, virtual travel, shopping, it made me stop and think for a moment. With the reach of facebook, who better then them to market it to the masses. There is talk that they are developing apps and maybe even some sort of virtual world platform. Yes, this is all good and fine for Facebook, but I also see it having an effect on us here. With more people, joining the ranks of Virtual Reality, due to all the new products coming out, we could see a whole new influx of people. It would take years for these new worlds to get up to the amount of development and content that SL has so it puts SL in a good position for new people to come in and see stuff that is already built.

Sansar will also be marketed for Oculus users i'm sure. So yes...they may visit Sansar, but also take interest in exploring the thousands of worlds here. With Open Sim, anyone can afford to create a world. The equivalent of a webpage when the internet first started, and could very well develop the same way. Worlds linked together via hypergrid....would allow inexpensive worlds to be developed by people, education and business just like webpages did.

These are some of my thoughts on this. I really am bullish on Virtual Reality and Oculus and the potential it has to change how the internet is seen.

Second Life CEO Ebbe Altberg speaks about their VR project, ‘Sansar’

Bloggers' Corner

I have been following project Sansar for a while now. I do find myself excited about the prospect of a newer faster better world. And cheaper is always better. With that said, he fails to mention cost of SL or how Sansar will effect it. Will they keep the prices the same in SL with cheaper prices in Sansar? Higher sales and service taxes in exchange for lower land prices, I would surely like. With lower land prices, I can guarantee, I would be spending more on the marketplace. After tiers, who has money left for shopping. Prices to me are very important. At current prices, I may be downsizing in the next couple months, just because it is hard to justify the cost of SL.....when you can get the same size estate in an open sim for the fraction of the price.

His is comments on building, seem troublesome to me. I understand that creations in maya and blender, those sorts of programs, can be much nicer and efficient. What bothers me is, that not all people are technical, so to speak. When I joined SL, I had no idea about 3d modeling or building in a virtual world. It took me all of a month in SL, to figure out the building part of it. The reason I stuck to it, was it was simple. The concept of rezzing a prim and applying a texture was easy. I am afraid with the new world, if it is not a simple process, people like me would not have developed. Later yes, I found out about maya and other external building programs, but even now, I am still struggling with blender. The concept of basic shapes and easy add textures..allowed even the most hard headed, like me, to learn and fall in love with building.

Lets hope, Sansar opens up new opportunities for us. I still wonder if I even have the energy to move our whole estate to Sansar. I have just finished a 3.5 year project and am ready to retire. Some of our buildings, like the Capitol, are not meshed, and we would not be allowed to carry them to Sansar. The Capitol has been in the same place since it was built in Jan 08. It is the oldest original building in Antiquity. That would be hard to replace.

Like louis, I have never heard of Voxell, but lets hope that those of use with the IQ of a fence post can understand how to use it.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Tatiana..:)

TTR Content Copybotted & Imported to Sunlight-Grid

General Discussion

It is good to know that Sunlight grid was so helpful with removing your content and banning the avatar. All of us who travel in other grids...keep your eyes out for objects you may recognize and know the creator. Working together is our only true way to combat this as LL is not much help. Its so sad, we have to result to banning alts, for theft. It has taken creators years to fine tune their craft, to have it stolen in 2 mins....is just down right depressing.

as I always tell myself....Karma is a bitch...and this thief will get his own taste of it some day.

scuse da bad language..:P

Theft in SL

General Discussion

I have to agree with you and Tatiana about this. Yes, its a horrible thing to have your things stolen. But we cannot allow this type of action to stifle the creative ideas flowing around in our heads. Yes, they can steal it. Yes they can use it. But as Tatiana, who put it best mentioned, we are a small community. Even in the far flung world of outer grids, theft can be uncovered. Anyone that uses stolen goods, is left with the only option. Enjoy it by your self or with others that allow theft. Having this over their heads, they know, they cannot invite anyone honest to their places.

So, I join with both of you all, in stating, I will not allow thieves to ruin my SL experience. I will keep creating, keep putting my things out for people that enjoy them and keep engaging with the historical community here.

I refuse to live behind a wall out of fear. This is something, that I think is my own way of stating, they have not won. Removing my items from view, from sale or shutting out people from my estate, gives in to the fear. I may loose things, but as stated before, my love of creating and sharing far out weighs any fears I may have.

Good luck to you both, and to all creators, who work so hard to make SL a place we can all enjoy.

Theft in SL

General Discussion

yes Louis...we have learned from this...and there is no hard feelings. These are your items...and you do as you like. The admins are looking at how to better address something like this. You did give a list of alts you suspected of being a copyboter, and we will be reaching out to other estates. These alts dont only walk around freely here...but in other courts as you well know. This was one area I hope that estate owners can better collaborate with. Share lists of known copyboters. Intellectual property theft is a big issue. I do have a bit of intellectual property out there myself and do have skin in the game. This has been an issue from day one that I came into SL

Our protocols on how to deal with this will be reviewed and adjusted. We had to do that with Bill. We been fighting Bill for over 6 years in Antiquity. There have been times his alts have moved around and we were aware of it. We also learned that blanket banning on suspected alts with no proof its Bill other then a suspicion, and we have been wrong and had to lift the ban on an innocent person.

With that said, no hard feelings louis..and good luck on your current project.

Theft in SL

General Discussion

Good morning.

I am sad to report, that the French area in Antiquity has been removed by the creator for fears Antiquity did not do enough to protect his items from copybot. We were made aware of some items being stolen, some textures from the creator and a coin HUD Antiquity had developed through an independent scripter. At that moment, the admins present and the creator all reported the suspected AV to LL. As we believed that was the proper way to deal with this issue.

Two years later, the AV is still roaming around, and LL has done nothing. This brings up a very important issue for all of us. I know this topic has been discussed at length, but I would like to touch on it again and ask for a community discussion on how we work as a group to deal with suspected thieves.

As owners of the estate, we filed an abuse report with LL. This being the first step. But if LL does nothing, what are we left to do? One suggestion was to ban the AV and its alts. I see the rational for doing it, but does it really have any effect on the theft? One can ban suspected av and alts, but with the ability to create a new AV at a whim, is it really effective? Revealing AV identities and exposing ALTs is against the LL TOS. Do we ban new avatars? Would a copyboter use his main account to steal items? Do we need to work on an estate level to meet, review evidence and take action together as a group?

How, as creators and estate owners, do we fight this? Just as the creator is worried, it is not like I dont have skin in this game. I as well, have a few things that could be stole and probably already have been stolen.

Any person that wants to steal stuff, can. Copybots have been a problem since I first arrived in SL. And copybots are in all grids. Content is taken from online websites, stolen and sold as their own.

I am at a total loss as to what to do to effectively fight a suspected copyboter. Besides closing our estates off, or removing our items from marketplace, how do we fight to stop it.

We have top end designers in our period communities. Any suggestions to combat this, is important to everyone. Any input or suggestions would be really appreciated as I am at a loss.

Update on Buckingham Palace

Communty News & Events

Thank you Princess. If it were not for all the support from you and the rest of the admins, that had to pull the slack while I was completing this, it would never have come to fruition. Thank you for all you did to make this happen. Also, you are so correct about Twelfthnight and Crotian, both masters of multiple crafts. As this will be my last major build, I could not have asked for a better team to retire from.
