Has anyone else in here read a book calledJade, by Sally Watson? It was one of my favourites when I was about twelve years old - about an improper young lady from a "good" Virginia family who ended up as part of Anne Bonny's crew. The photo of Anne in breeches brings back the memory, very happily.

Except for two days, April on my chunk of the Canadian prairie did not provide the ambiance needed to relax outdoors. It provided opportunities for snow shovelling - slush shovelling - snow and slush slogging - car window scraping and some ice dam remediation - nothing that I'd call relaxing, really, though there was time outdoors.

What an excellent excuse for a visit to Paris!
Unfortunately, when I was at the Louvre in physical form in 1988, I had not yet become absorbed in the Enlightenment, or discovered the work of Vige-Lebrun, and spent my single day mostly wandering ancient and Renaissance-oriented galleries. One can so easily discover lost opportunities as years go by.

If the littlest pirate happened to have long red braids, I suspect that the hangings may not be easy to arrange. Somewhere in my archives, I have a portrait of this individual eating King George's cake, in King George's private dining-room, and she survived that escapade handily enough.
Even if she is captured, prying recipes out of her may be a more difficult task than a poor guard can manage.
Meanwhile, a dreadful pall of smoke from the fire still hangs over my villa in neighbouring Mont Saint Bruno. I hope very much that it dissipates before the tea-and-dance party that my lord and I have planned for 3 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon.

Reading a book is one way of delivering it, but it's far from the only way, and for many learners and many kinds of learning needs, a book is not the most effective way. A good educator is always ready to use a wide range of sources, representations, demonstrations and communicative interfaces.
For visual learners, virtual representations can be powerful learning platforms, and SL gives us an exciting set of tools for creating them. You might want to visit the virtual representation of Machu Picchu, sponsored in SL by a university in Peru, to see how archaeological studies can be enriched by a virtual environment. Other fields benefit from virtual tools as well.
