(Firstly, my apologies for my horrible english) :))

Dear friends:

Soon, more or less around 15 August, I will do two years in SL. I remember the day that "I was born" and I see a big difference between who I was, and who I am today.
For those who do not see advantages of be newbie I would say that is completely uncertain, the great advantage of be newbie is that all there is too newbie for you: SL was a great mystery, and I, as manic of History, soon landed in Versailles, I felt the magic "touch" of history. The royal courts was a mix of all of my dreams of childhood and adolescence together. But these "sims" speak and bow?

Since I knew all that I have lived in the eighteenth century 98% of time spent in SL. I know that I should dedicate myself to explore the vast virtual world, but in this delicious Age of Enlightenment there are so many things to do ...
But I keep a sensation, I do not know if you share with me: That we have grown in realism, that it is more difficult to "play the role of courtier" because it represents a major challenge, exciting game that is not exactly a game.

As evidence, we could compare the actual courts of two years ago with the present, we are simply much better, we're better dressed, and have much better education, and we are even more handsome. Is that our pixels are worthy of a museum!

However, I can not avoid look back with a smile, I recall my first day at the Spanish court, with my avatar very bad dressed. My first day at Versailles, with a white wig that made by me joining cylinders: The wig seemed made of toilet paper. I only could say only "hello" in English (more or less as now) and the people that I found seems most interesting and original, especially not understanding what they said because I don`t knew what is a simultaneous translator, wich also is addicted to alcohol simultaneously: all time translating "rioja, rioja, rioja" in the place of correct spanish words, that is love the Rioja's wine!

I could write my memories here with the risk of bore to the sheeps, I'd have a few rather vivid memories:

-My first steps of the palace of La Granja, with his Carriage of Apollo in the middle of the waterfall. I, as Secretary of State, he kept leaving, entering, dealing with the people...Was a "work" fascinating.
-The gatherings in the "cabinet "of Countess Constance Zapedzka, at Versailles, where one felt transported to room of Mdme. de la Fert-Imbault.
-The dances in the Colonnade of the old Versailles and a grand ball at the Chteau des Loups, wich had a spectacular garden, with the palladian bridge of Wilton House.
-The sleepless nights in the Royal Office, writing letters, with the avatar of Charles III, King of Spain.
-The night that I "redecorate" the hall of the Royal Theater without permission, was my first speech, it was not totally bad, helped me not stop creating things, but I learned to not get involved in the work of another person. I could say that I was an unjust "artistic invader."
- The morning that I wrote an angry letter to my former king, which I regret, and the night that I published my resignation as" king "in the Spanish Court.
-One love, the only one and the last, because the virtual passions are beautiful when they are platonic, but melancholic when we don`t have physical proximity.
-And, more recently, the incredible and meticulous building of the actual Versailles, is like be there being a courtier, not simply a turist!

I do not want to make a melodrama of all this, but it is nice to open a space for remembrance, so I invite you to write here a personal and POSITIVE episode of your life in the royal courts. Will be an honor for me to share it, and so, let us know a little more about you.

what a lovely idea monsieur le comte!I would love to share some scandalous details of my past in second life too lol.My second life like yours I assume started in one of the historical courts. Shortly after my account was created I found Versailles and joined the court connected to this sim which was formally known as Court of Louis XIV. I looked ridiculous when I first went to see the palace. I looked like a noob -a newbie without appropriate clothes. and back then in 2007 there were no freebie clothes like now. The first dress I bought was by Nonna Hedges - a designer I still admire. I was so proud of my first rococo gown and just loved that wig Nonna had included in the package. I also adored my rococo skin. I was all white with rouge on my cheeks and a lovely black dot below my eye. I looked like a doll . . .or rather like a dead body. Nowadays I would say that I looked ridiculous.I must admit that life in the courts wasn't always easy. It was marked by up and downs (but well thats SL). . .however I met many interesting and lovely personages that have become good friends. Ever since people have come and gone. in the last few months I have met so many new people that already mean the world to me. The communities are full of new faces which is quite refreshing. The most remarkable events of my second life?- when I bought my first rococo gowns- when I met celebrian ceawlin, duchess of ravenspur and maria- the grand ball at chateau des loups (yes I do remember that too) which was a great event I will never forget. I still have a photo which was taken by celebrian. its truly beautiful- the day when Nonna told me a french investor wanted us to rebuild versailles on 6 simsIn general I still remember how I met every single personage (nokidding lol) roleplaying at the court of versailles. all of them have become a sort of sl family.

First, Milord, don't apologize for your poor english- or I'll have to do the same!and this foreign accent is part of your ( and hopefully my) charms:-)Secondly, I thank you for opening the doors on the secret gardens of the past, full of nostalgia, more than melodrama...Though SL is rather a place to be active in than nostalgic about, many of us can't help but cherish the days gone by, our bewildered but awkward starts, false starts, mishapps, errors ( let's forget the sordid surprises). And our joys: meeting wonderful people ( I remember vividly the "when and where" of each new encounter, which led to present friendships that mean so much to me), exploring stunning land- or cityscapes, living a dream life.I came in SL at first just to have a look , and then to take a vacation from the RL and enjoy it selfishly. But I soon discovered, as time went by, that this sometimes exhilarating three-dimensonal metaverse, exists only through the labor of love of fully dedicated people who build and manage day by day this magic world, not only for their own pleasure, but mainly for others to enjoy it with them. I would then have felt so guilty if I had not tried to do anything in return, I HAD to do something, but what? I'm not a builder , even less a scripter, not an artist, I'm not in the least a computer freak, I never RPed in my life before...It all began with the Royal Courts for me a few months after my rezz day, soon after the beginning of our Romance with Lady Candace: I was looking for a place in SL to settle in for good, a place that Candace ( who still needed to be convinced:-), would accept to settle too.I was exploring this big wide world over , and nothing fitting. Typing for location names in Research, aimlessly. One day, it occured to me to type " Provence", since I love this french region so much in RL.I found one, teleported...and landed on the Piazza between Tatiana' s Tea Room and Skye's Varriale Designs shop. Oooooohhhh! the old graceful palais, the sunrays and shadows on the cobblestoned pavement, the little shops and the old market carts full of fruits, rugs, dresses... and THE FOUNTAIN! Ohhhh The gorgeous period furniture ! and as I went along, the Canal du Midi, the huge castle, the tiny streets, and then the greenery of the country side, and the seashore, near the Queen's Hamlet...and Ooohhh the change of seasons...I WAS HOME!I introduced Candace to this new world, and she explored it by herself, and fell in love with it too.We rented Villa Ravello, but did not intend at first to take part in the Duchy's RP. We ( mainly me, I should say) were not attracted. I was even reluctant to dress in 18th century clothes , with these fluffy lace cravats and frilly lace cuffs, worn on flowery coats, not to speak about the powdered wigs:-).A few days passed, visiting the Duchy coast to coast, marvelling at everything as we marvelled at each other. We met residents once in a while, in period clothes, who greeted us so politely and nicely. I decided I could no longer "spoil" the landscape in my 21st century clothes, and made up my mind, in respect for our hosts and neighbors, to buy and wear some Period outfits.(They were bought at Trasgo's, who later became such a good friend). And it went on, little by little: my first friend in the Duchy de Coeur ( MariaLouisa...), followed by so many others...The discovery of the Royal Courts NING, this goldmine of information about who does what and what's happening...I was getting involved more and more, taking part in the events, having so much fun...forgetting about my former prejudices about clothing, I tried to become a lacy, flowery and frilly baroque fashion victim ( less than West Lyvingstone, though, The Prince of Fashionistas can't be beaten:-) and less than the more than perfect Myron Byron).Next step was to add my own touch to the community: What can you build, if you're not a builder?I thought that fencing, as we learned through the " cloak and dagger" movies, was so much a part of the baroque culture, along with horseriding and hunting ( in place of nowadays sports), that it could be a good RPing idea to revive it in the Duchy. But why only in the Duchy? According to me, it had to be opened to all the Royal Courts Communities!I knew it was a hazardous experience, and could maybe not raise a great interest : I used some tricks to attract attention, and launched the first meeting, and it was such a JOY to see many courtiers coming and enjoying it:)It feels SO GOOD when people respond and enjoy what you intended for them!... Then we had the first tournament in Orange Nassau, a success...and the story will go on as long as people will enjoy fencing ar attending and chatting together during or between games!SORRY, I've been so lengthy! but my conclusion is: Look at me, I'm a good-to-nothing-in-SL fellow, who can't use one tenth of the devices and tools of sl: but I scratched my head until I found something that I could handle for the pleasure and entertainment and togetherness of our communities. So many of you have done more, much more than me: but to those who did not, I feel like saying, try something, invent something, for YOU CAN'T IMAGINE the Joy it is to share it with the whole community! And believe me, if I made it, Everybody can make it!ENJOY the Royal Courts, my Friends!

This is a wonderful thread: it is fantastic - especially for relative newcomers like me - to hear you elder statesmen (and women) of Second Life reminisce about your pasts and highlights of life at the Royal Courts.I haven't been at this a fraction as long as the vast majority of the wonderful RP-ers that populate this virtual eighteenth century with as much colour and vivacity as its real-life counterpart. Indeed, next to the vast majority of you I still feel very much like a noob! Hence, I don't really want to give my very limited run-down of 'greatest hits', not least as I am very sure there will be very many more to come. What I will say is that already I have made wonderful friends and had some unforgettable experiences. Having the chance to relive the eighteenth century is something I have dreamed about for years, and I am grateful to each and every person involved in these amazing courts that help me, in some small way, to live out that wish.I think Versailles was the first place I came to in Second Life. It is certainly the one that has made me stay. With my greatest love, affection and admiration always,

Merci, Monsieur le Comte, for the reminiscences and wonderful photographs. I share your enthusiasm for the courts, especially since I spent years in SL before I discovered them. They're vastly more fun and interesting than the other regions and sims I've seen. I sincerely hope, though, that we can create more stability and keep the courts we have now from self-destructing. I too felt since childhood that I'd lived before in royal courts, and often I have a sense of 'deja vu' when role playing.Yours truly,Sir River

Ah, fantstica iniciativa, Seor Conde(With all your permission, I prefer to speak spanish))Sinceramente, mi historia no es digna de destacar, pero siento inters por compartirla con ustedes.
