King’s Grave
Frederick the Great died on August 17, 1786 in the armchair of his study in Sanssouci. His instructions were to bury him in a tomb next to his Weinberghäuschen and next to his favorite dogs. His nephew and successor Frederick William II did not obey these instructions and ordered him to be buried in the Potsdam garrison church next to his father (really mean of him as Frederick did not get on with his father when they were alive). His coffin was moved to safety during WW2 and later buried at this location in Sanssouci, next to his hounds.
