Shared Seas: Sailboat Race - Too much fun!!

Communty News & Events

Great idea, Quecay!

Perhaps some of those not wishing to sail would volunteer to take pictures.

Are you going to be competing? Among other things, I'm looking forward to seeing you in one of your new outfits :)

Reluctant Renovator: Are We There Yet?

Bloggers' Corner

It's true, Aldo! The dogs were helpful according to their personalities.

Lacy, the German Shepherd, inspected every tradesperson that came in to insure they were trustworthy and then kept a continual eye on them to make sure they weren't going to cause problems.

Karma, the Sheltie, was more welcoming & made friends with everyone.

Buffy, the Poodle, was more interested in the design details. I had the feeling that she was accessing every change to make sure it was worthy of her princess status ;)

You raise an excellent point about a entity staying alive through change, I couldn't agree more :)

Reluctant Renovator: Are We There Yet?

Bloggers' Corner

It's been eighteen months since we embarked on

our renovation journey

and I've finally gotten around to asking myself if "we're there yet".

I have a sneaking suspicion that, for me at least, when it comes to our home renovation we're never actually going to arrive, simply because my "there" is a tad too Utopian.

Far from being frustrated, I'm actually very content with this idea of a never-ending renovation journey especially since I'm now enjoying some major accomplishments. All this to say that it's a excellent time to take stock of what we've done, where we are, and where we want to go from here.

First things first though ...

Who Are We?

We're a family of six living out in the 'burbs of Ottawa. As you can see, three members of the family happen to be of the canine variety which, believe you me, complicates any home design/decoration project we undertake. Our dogs are well-trained & well-behaved (and the only members of the family willing to have their pictures posted on social media) but it still pays to be proactive in creating an inclusive environment.

I'll probably be mentioning design decisions based on the dogs much more often than those based on my husband or daughter.

With the exception of our daughter, this is our "forever" home. We've been here a while and have no intention of moving; renovation for resale is not on our minds.

We basically know what works and what doesn't; figuring out how to fix various problems is another story.

Outing My Alt ~ Hugo Dieter ~ by Lady Leena Fandango

General Discussion

I love the idea of you sharing your account. I know that some people do it in the form of letters to one another etc. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Also, you don't have to lose Hugo's content. I can just "suspend" the account which will keep the content intact. If you would like to go that route, give me a shout when you are ready.

Thanks!

British experts say they have found London's lost Black Death graves

History

And to go with that information: Black death was not spread by rat fleas, say researchers

Evidence from skulls in east London shows plague had to have been airborne to spread so quickly

Spring Clean Your Blogs: Reap the Rewards of Renewal

Bloggers' Corner

It's Spring!! It's Spring!! After a particularly trying Canadian winter I'm more than ready for this season of renewal and since Mother Nature still hasn't gotten the spring memo for my neck-of-the-woods I'm expending my new found energy on a much needed blog cleaning.

Truth be told, I really enjoy this creative process and so I thought I would share some of my enthusiasm.

First off, I'm really not talking about the little maintenance tasks that you should be doing all year round. Ensuring that your links are still working & your pictures are still posting are best dealt with on a regular basis otherwise they become a bit of a slog. If you have fallen behind, and who doesn't on occasion, you may want to take some time to get those in order before proceeding.

Now on to de-cluttering!

The older I get the more I value a well curated space be. Since this appreciation for restrained elegance is constantly at war with my natural magpie tendencies I have to compromise. I find it helps to take a step back and try to look at my blogs with fresh eyes all the while mumbling "... less is more ... less is more".

No matter how cool they are, if those gadgets & widgets are no longer highly functional & ascetically pleasing it's time to chuck them out.

Screen real estate is valuable; use it wisely while leaving room for your cherished content to breathe.
